Hi there, Forgive me, I'm not a bus worker, and I don't know if this the right place to post this – so do please let me know. I live in Crystal Palace, south London. Like many others, as the Covid19 crisis got worse and worse through March and beyond I wanted to do something to help. I live near the Crystal Palace bus terminal and was struck by the numbers of bus drivers and workers who were succumbing to CV19 across London. Yet it felt like an aspect of the crisis that was getting lost. Understandably, perhaps, amid all the thousands of deaths across the country – but I felt strongly that it should not be forgotten that the many bus workers who were keeping the capital's bus services running were in many cases paying with their lives for their duty. I like to run, so, with another running friend, came up with the idea of a charity running event to raise funds for those London bus workers who have been affected by CV19 and the families of those who have unfortunately died. We are calling it RUN FOR A BUS. We approached the Transport Benevolent Fund, and they have agreed to ring fence any funds raised for London bus workers (and their families) affected by CV19. So that's the charity we are raising funds for. RUN FOR A BUS is taking place over 26-28 June in London. The idea is that runners can run all or part of a bus route near them at any point that weekend, and invite sponsorship (see donate link below). I and a few friends are going to start things rolling early on Friday 26 June by running the 249, 3 and 363 bus routes (see map!). We would very much like any bus workers who might read this to get involved if you like the sound of it: join in with a run of your own (and get added to our donations page, you can run as far as you want along any bus route). Or just honk and wave if you see any of us out and about that weekend (we have t-shirts!). (CV19 is still a major concern, so we are telling runners to stay socially distanced and not run in big groups if it comes to that.) More info on RUN FOR A BUS: medium.com/runners-dreamers/run-for-a-bus-3dac7d9ab64eDonate: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/RUNFORABUSEmail (if you want to run a bus route of your own and be added to the donor list on the RUN FOR A BUS Virgin Giving page): runforabus@icloud.com I hope this seems a good idea to you, the bus workers and drivers. The fund has attracted a few pledges already (over . We look forward to seeing you the weekend of 26-28 June behind the wheel or even better, on the pavement in a pair of trainers. Thanks very much for reading this, All the best, Mike Higgins

I have emailed yourselves and I look forward to your response! Regards Carl Burton (Former bus driver, current train driver)

Not suggesting everyone needs to run a bus route all the time but I really hope some people realise that you don't need to get on a bus for one or two stops. A bit of fresh air and exercise doesn't do any harm.

That's not including stopping for lunch in Kingston and coffee along the way. I did have to cheat and get a bus through the Heathrow tunnel as its not for pedestrians. But otherwise a brilliant day.

Winter Soldier, New Bus Girl (sorry, am new to this forum, wasn't quite sure who posted this!) - no, we have not yet approached the bus companies, we'll get round to that I hope. But thank you very much for getting the message out yourself, that's is very kind of you. And hey if you fancy running between a few bus stops instead of driving between them, please join up! We're keen to get as many people running and particularly bus workers. Carl below is all signed up and ready to go!
