Mortlake. It wouldn't be a practical site for today's buses, but they had a good reputation for vehicle presentation, and it'd be interesting to see such a garage in the modern era. Bring back Riverside too while we're at it!
If we extend this to the Country area there are so many garages that have been lost - Chelsham, Reigate, Leatherhead, St Albans etc etc... Not that there's much of a bus network left in many of those areas.

Thanks for the correction, I'd forgotton that. If you know the area, there was Banfields coaches in the Walworth Road, I thing GG took them over as well No, I had no clue about Banfields, thanks for sharing that There main depot was the old Nunhead Garage(AH) on Peckham Rye, Walworth Road was a ticket/pick up point.Check out 'Banfield Coaches' on the web

Retaining the old National Travel coach depot on the Catford one way system could have been interesting. If it had remained, Kentish Bus would have had a much better base for the Bromley/Lewisham routes they won in the early/mid 90s. Ah, yes, Timpson's (nothing to do with keycutting!). When the Catford one-way was created I was going to school in Catford and my bus, the 160, got diverted via the back of it: used to see the AEC Reliance coaches they were keen on. I can't believe it was a very capacious site, though, and having a garage on a busy one-way system can bring huge problems, which is why Riverside, Hammersmith (R) had to be sacrificed. Really, CT is a remarkable survivor in the circumstances, although of course it closed once supposedly for good.

Also, does anyone know where HE was located? I tried googling but buses and Heathrow is a tricky combination!

I could be wrong but I believe it might be in Stanwell on Crane Road off Bedfont Road even though HE was recognised as Heathrow? As far as I know Arriva based the E10 buses at the former OFJ site now used by Rotala / Hallmark Connections - an arrangement that stemmed from the dying days of TGM, and which continued even after OFJ sold their Heathrow operations to Rotala. This base is indeed on Crane Road; it is marked as Hallmark Connections on Google Maps. Confusingly on some maps there are two bits of road that are labelled Crane Road, one on either side of the London / Surrey border. The entrance to the Hallmark Connections base is on the London side, on the road that leads to the Esso West London Oil Terminal.
For anyone using Openstreetmap, there is a site labelled as "Heathrow Bus Garage" next door, but this is actually the Scania Heathrow site, not a bus garage.
In any case HE was not owned by Arriva, and I doubt they would have been able to base any more buses there even if they'd wanted to.

The old Sidcup garage would be handy for a lot of routes. There were whispers in the past couple of years that sites nearby were being looked at but obviously nothing came of it A ‘son of SP’ would be very useful. Would imagine both Go-Ahead and Arriva could make use of such an establishment.

It was opened by LGOC (the London General Omnibus Company) in 1929 and it closed on 30th September 1977 when its allocation was transferred to MA (Amersham).

Some I've known have asked: "Why wasn't Amersham coded AM?" Not realising that that code was already used by Plumstead.

Hiya all,
Was just up in Finchley visiting the fam recently and I noticed that the Homebase is shutting where the Finchley bus garage site was. Hopefully we could see a return 👀

Battersea Garage (BA) off Hester Road would've been ideal for Arriva for healthier competition in the Clapham Junction and surrounding areas. This would be the actual old London Transport building that was opposite Arriva's old BA depot (which kept on the code) and neighbouring London General's old BB. Actually, Battersea was B, not BA.

We will soon be able to add SF to this list (although I have always preferred other nearby garages such as AR)
