In the same case as the R5/8/10, it would now serve rural housing not near the routes and serve new areas such as Badgers Mount and Knockholt Station and gives passengers more customisation. There are some routes that Because of how little areas they serve or what people's preferred modes of transport are, if they don't want to wait 75 minutes for an indirect R5/10, they won't. We have to work with the local communities to get people out of their cars and onto public transport and introducing bus lanes would make it all the more easier to get about on a bus. A fast and reliable service from your phone. What's not to love? You’ve mentioned the R5/R10 and R8 quite a bit in terms of DRT. Forgive me if I’ve missed it but do you have any experience with these routes? I drove the R5/R10 for five years and you could pretty much set your watch in terms of when regular punters would be getting on. The cycle time for many passengers was sufficient that they could get into Orpington, do their shopping and have only 10-15 minutes to wait for the bus back. It’s worked for many years I don’t think DRT would change things much. Buses would be going out at regular times so why not keep it on a regular timetable? DRT is much more suited to areas that don’t currently have any service. It also feels like it’s more of a younger generation thing. Whether you like it or not, the older generation are not comfortable doing everything on their phone (if they even have one!). This may start to change in a generation or two but I do feel that DRT is nothing more than a gimmick at the current time

Whether you like it or not, the older generation are not comfortable doing everything on their phone (if they even have one!). This may start to change in a generation or two but I do feel that DRT is nothing more than a gimmick at the current time DRT is definitely not a gimmick and for those of whom don't have smartphones, a Dial a ride sort of scheme could be implemented where you just call. I have family down that neck of the woods for a while and I think they have said that as nice as it is for having a bus route down there, they complained particularly leaving their homes on an R5/10 that it was fairly inconvenient due to its timetable and indirectness dependant on which way they went. It was already a walk for them (them being my older family members) and they would say that it was not very convenient given the walk they already endure to reach it. I think particularly for a route like the R8, the narrow roads are clearly a problem and I believe a minibus would do the trick. In areas such as where the R5/8/10 serve, for their frequencies I think they do well though there are lots of roads quite close to the route that are unserved completely, and I think given how close the 3 routes run, a minibus would be good with a massive zone for it to cover.

I know that when Copthall/Allianz Park was being planned and redeveloped, Barnet asked if TfL could provide a bus service along Champions Way to the new leisure centre and sports hub (yet to be constructed fully). TfL didn't see what bus route they could extend in the area so considered DRT instead. A study was done for this area but TfL decided that it wasn't a suitable location due to the number of higher frequency buses such as the 113 and 221 stopping nearby, along with not enough forecasted demand to make it worthwhile.
I think the common misconception with DRT is that it serves as a replacement for regular bus services altogether. I don't believe this to be the case; DRT and buses should work hand in hand, not one in place of the other. DRT should link residential communities with poorer transport access to shopping centres and transport hubs, mopping up the residual demand rather than acting as a substitute for a scheduled bus service.

There are figures that show both the Sutton and Ealing schemes were showing month on month increases until March.
Given the dire financial state of TfL now I can't see these coming back with TfL funding at all.
If I were a budding entrepreneur though, I would look to start one up.

Go Coach could easily do the rural south of Orpington/north of Sevenoaks patch. Believe they already have Yes. Areas covered include Eynsford, Otford, Shoreham. I think also possibly up to Kemsing.

Medway Estate could do with better Transportation, DRT could be the answer

Not all of us know the E5 well - it’s not like well known places such as Croydon, Kingston, Stratford etc. It would be like me mentioning, for example, Central Avenue, without qualifying it with Welling, and assuming everyone knows.

Perivale/Greenford area just off the A40.
