Which bus routes meet the maximum number of buses crossing the Greater London border without crossing the border themselves?
The 193, 252 and 165 meet 5 routes crossing the Greater London border (347, 370, 372, 375, 498)
The 86 must also be a contender - meets 150, 462, 167, 347, 370, 375 and 498. That’s 7 routes
Any other contenders?

From what I can work out it meets 80, 116, 117, 166, 203, 216, 235, 290, 293, 403, 405, 406, 407, 411, 418, 465, 466, 470, K3, R68, & S1. That’s 21 by my count but I hope I haven’t missed any or included ones that don’t. These are just the TfL ones as there are some non-TfL routes that it meets as well. It also gets close to but doesn’t meet the 81 near Heathrow

The 229 meets the 96, 428, 492 and B12, 4 routes
What day route that crosses the border comes the closest to Central London? The 96 and 279 I know of, any others?

The N279 goes to Trafalgar Square and goes out of the M25 and Greater London. I think the furthest routes are mainly south being the N1 and N89 which goes outside of London and also reaches Central London. The N279 is probably the only north route. East, you could maybe have a shot at the N8 which runs to Hainault but I dont believe it exits the London borders.

The N1 terminates in Thamesmead - well inside the London border and the N89 terminates at Erith also inside the London border but does come close to the border when passing through Slade Green

What day route that crosses the border comes the closest to Central London? The 96 and 279 I know of, any others? Of the day routes the 279 looks hard to beat. Manor House is on the Zone 2/3 border.
Others that come close would be 142 (Brent Cross), 470 (Colliers Wood) or S1 (Lavender Fields).

Is Kingston in London? The 65 could be one as it serves Ealing

Think 279 is definitely the right one. Others come fairly close but not close enough 20 is another one which reaches zone 3
