Sorry in advance if this has already been answered or its in the wrong thread.
I have a dbs as i currently work with special needs kids but i also had one when i worked for first and when i worked on the olympics. Recently we had a new starter that came from stagecoach and he has had to do a dbs (which he passed ) but he told me they dont do dbs checks in london? I know theres not just go ahead stagecoach and arriva but lots of other companies too. Im curious to know if its true across the groups?

I'm curious to why you ask if you have a job and the person passed who joined from Stagecoach. If someone has nothing to hide they shouldn't be worried about having a DBS done, things always come to light in the end.

If you are working with special needs children you will need a higher level of DBS check than a service bus driver. Incidentally if the company checks for criminal records it must have a policy on employing ex-offenders. www.gov.uk/find-out-dbs-check

I meant done as standard as in routine not a standard check!!! We have to carry our council badges with us at all times also as they do spot checks. I guess its different rules for council work.

It's nothing to do with council work or bus work, it is to do with the nature of your role and is mainly concerned with the protection of people classed as "vulnerable". Indeed employers can fall foul of employment law if they ask for disclosure of past convictions, or order a level of DBS check, that is not relevant to the job.
