Unite the union is calling on the Government to bring forward its proposal to fund 4,000 electric buses, to save Britain's bus-building industry and avoid job losses. The Government pledged to buy the vehicles back in February, but so far no orders have been placed. This follows ADL's announcement that 200 jobs are to go inn Guildford, "at least" 160 in Falkirk and 90 in Scarborough. The union Correction: ADL's President Paul Davies points out that the UK's fleet of 50,000 buses and 21,000 coaches currently have an average age of eleven years and just 0.1% are electric - Government intervention at this stage could secure a significant age reduction as well as delivering cleaner air for the UK's towns and cities. leftfootforward.org/2020/08/bring-forward-electric-bus-orders-to-save-jobs-unite-tells-boris/

My error - I forgot to include the 21,000 coaches; also the 0.1% figure is actually attributed to the ADL President Paul Davies, rather than Unite.

My error - I forgot to include the 21,000 coaches; also the 0.1% figure is actually attributed to the ADL President Paul Davies, rather than Unite. That still only increase the number to 71. As I said the dodgy percentage is attributable to ADL. Although the true figure is higher than 71 it is still a miniscule percentage of the 4,000 buses that were pledged by the Government.
