SP40020 was on the V293 (not my tweet) Are the Bedfont Lakes services still completely suspended or is there a reduced service? Don't know

For TT it seems to be any spare bus at X which makes the V635, V642, V698, V681 journeys.

My gut feeling is the school extras will be back for another half term 6 weeks Monday 6th January to Friday 12 Feb
I will wager money that will be it for school extras in current form, by the time second half term resumes (Monday 22nd Feb) although some schools might have different dates, some sort of vaccination programme will probably be under way. Many will have had first round dose (I think it is 2 does 3 weeks apart, with older folks recommended to then wait 1-2 weeks before normality), and for children risk will drop quickly
The other reason why I think school extras will not return in current form from 22 Feb is that most Operators will have shipped their old non euroVI buses out of London (and I mean physically drive them to somewhere) outside the LEZ as that comes in a week later. There may be a few selected enhancements to Easter, but on a much reduced scale.
Any residual school buses will probably end Friday 31 March, (last day of term, and also end of current Government TFL bailout).
This is my prediction, not official, the current published info is school extras end Friday 18th December

An example is GAL who require the SENs for the takeover of route B12 & 469, the buses currently are serving as school extras. Personally I think TFL will not extend it into the new year. Also withdrawing the school services on the 18th gives operators further time to plan any movements that may be required for 31st March and of course allow contracts to start smoothly in the new year.

A journey I was on last week was duplicated by an extra bus. It was sorely needed as well. Both buses were over the official limited capacity.

I don't think there is any justification of withdrawing services in January unless the extras themselves are not being utilised - likely what will happen is something else will be used instead of the SEN's. Could even be that ENL's redundant from Arriva are hired in to cover the school work temporarily until March

I was in Exeter on Friday evening and many departures had a school extra duplicate. In a couple of cases, when the service bus reached its allotted capacity, members of the public were being allowed onto the school buses!

So children are being encouraged and told to social distance in shops and at school etc. yet there is no risk of spreading the virus on the bus??

Of course there is risk - although most of it is alleviated by the correct wearing of masks and strict hand hygiene, and by the enhanced cleaning regimes that bus operators now have in place. No-one was forcing members of the public to get on those buses, they were given a choice of catching the school duplicate or waiting for the next bus and it was up to them if they wanted to take the risk.

Oof, this could prove difficult for GAL as they need to start gathering the 469/B12 vehicles soon. Have they got anything to replace these on the school extras or perhaps they could lease the Arriva E200s to replace the MMCs for a little while.

I heard that the extras could go all the way to March next year. Is that true?
