Are Ensign loaning the buses to GAL or running the extras? I’m interested to know this too. Has route learning been done by the firms working on other firms routes ? If so, that’s quite impressive. I guess it would be similar to when Ensign (and others) have provided tube strike extras - they usually do know the routes pretty well on the day so must have done some route learning, even if it's only virtual (e.g by going through the route on Streetview).

Probably missing something really obvious here but why do the 6xx routes have extra buses if they can run the capacity? Surely they are carrying the same about of students as before.
I totally get the need for extras on normal routes.

I am wondering this too, schools will be carrying less loads than usual now since not all year groups will be going on the same day or time, and TFL said no social distancing on the school extras or the routes involved with the school children only on the normal routes, so they shouldn’t need them. Think some vehicles from school routes are being used on the extras instead so the school routes are getting other vehicles?

Got bit of luck on seeing the extras this morning on my locals with 36012 was used on the 167 and 48025 used on the 462.
Ended up passing BK later in the day, which I saw 36041 parked at the depot and saw at least 3 provincial spec E200's (36012, 36041 and a AJ58 E200) and 3 Solos (Two SR's with one of which I assume it would be 48025 and a classic Solo parked right at the end).

Are all the school extras every other bus? every 147 I have seen in both the AM and PM peak have displayed the red Non School Bus sign. I am just wondering if drivers forget to swap the signs.....
