I'm sure no bus route has used or ever will use Woolwich ferry, but wouldn't it be great if there was a bus only ferry linking East London with the S.E London. What a time saver that would be. Is it feasible? I'm thinking of a smallish vessel, carrying two or three only, drive on, straight across, drive off, doesn't have to be that powerful. How much would it cost to build, probably a lot, but it could be cost effective over time. Just a fantasy I know, but why not dream?!

Nice idea but it would be subject to cancellations due to poor visibility and the various other problems that effect Woolwich Ferry.

Ensign (London Pride) ran a docklands bus tour back in the 90s which used the ferry, I don't think it was too successful.

For our younger readers this is one of a short wheel base RF(1-25) 27.5' as opposed to 30' for regular RFs. used exclusively for tours, hence the windows in the roof. I don't know if this photo was posed or if the crossing was part of the LT tour(Photo from Lt Museum) Attachment DeletedInterior from Ian's Bus Stop page Attachment Deleted

Didn't realise this was a thing. Would be great we had a route linking SE to East London (yes we have the 108 but as in Woolwich to Canning Town or Barking etc) but as mentioned it would be subject to delays and cancellations. I recall consultations for a bridge across the Thames in Thamesmead and/or Belvedere years ago. Wish that went ahead, would create so many new links. The East side of London is pretty restricted in terms of crossing the River Thames than the West side.

The 'private hire' RFs did (among other things) a 'London River Tour' for a few summers in the early 1950s, which included a crossing on the Woolwich Ferry. Another picture on this page

I think most likely crossing now will be a rail crossing, one or both of DLR or Overground GOBLIN to Thamesmead and possibly beyond.

Occasional double deckers have appeared on the Woolwich Ferry over the years (yes, including the odd RM) but, afaik, none with farepaying passengers.

I think a new Thames crossing is needed much more further east of Woolwich than building the Silvertown Tunnel. Something like building a rail link from Barking Riverside to Thamesmead on the Overground would be an excellent way of providing better river crossings in the east.

Also to add, a road bridge would allow Go-Ahead London and Stagecoach to bid for routes in the South East from RR or RM. Not that this would be practical and that there would be any need for this but hey, it could happen.

That would be amazing but Go Ahead have close distance garages aswell so incase of the 180 for example, it could be operated by RM but PD is closer.

Some of the 13xxx series were moved from PD to WH for the Londoner event back in 2016
