This sounds like a name given by a local council to a service aimed at transporting the elderly around. No matter how much I do dislike Optare's vehicles, the name is iconic and has stood the test of time really well. Exactly what I thought too when I first saw that Optare being renamed. Why change the name when Optare is a long standing, reputable name in the bus manufacturing industry? Switch Mobility Solo and Switch Mobility MetroCity do not go well together either IMO. Although Switch Mobility will be the company name, the suggestions I have seen suggest just Switch will be the trading name, as Mobility is not included in the new logo I've seen.

That's a bit better, although I think Optare is more of a notable name, especially with the success of the Solo.

What do we think of the new name for Optare. Can't say I am keen. Terrible, I do not know if they used the name due to electrification etc. but appalling. I rather they used the Leyland name. I can only see this with further lost sales.

Totally agree with your sentiments, but imagine the same was said when the Roe works was rebranded as Optare. But there was a difference then, they were not going to be just a bodywork assemblers. They then assembled the integral Metrorider and went on to do different things than the traditional Roe, with striking design as the Delta, Spectra and Excel.

For the 1st 2 years, their only offering was the Citypacer, which was really just a VW minibus with a swish body kit.

Switch Mobility will inevitably be shortened to its initials SM, which is a rather unfortunate choice .... Anyone who likes riding an SM vehicle could be keen on S & M

That website has since been populated with information about the company, and their products, including electric vehicles from both Switch Mobility Ltd and Switch Global Ltd. Information on the new Switch Mobility website was sparse beforehand. Interestingly, the main Optare website appears to have had a major design revamp, which looks much better although there seems to be a few things missing at the moment (only the Metrocity and Solo in the "our vehicles" section for example). The website retains the Optare branding and is now under the name of Optare UK Ltd. Optare Group Ltd was replaced by Switch Mobility Ltd, but this updated website now shows Optare UK Ltd, which I don't think I've seen before. Old website for reference - web.archive.org/web/20210501135232/http://www.optare.com/With the newest Metrodeckers at GAL and TT also having Optare badges, I'm wondering if all of this means that the Optare name is staying for the foreseeable future.

Seems we may have a solution to the lack of 8m single deck electric buses. Switch have just launched their new Metrocity 8.7m EV Demo conveniently in red and with powerblinds 🤔

Switch Mobility? Sounds like a taxi service or a scooter to me!!!!
Switch? Sounds like it's nothing to do with transport at all!!
I bet some company was paid ££££££s to come up with the name Switch Mobility or Switch.
I hope the re-brand works, but I have my doubts.

What is the purpose of the new shorter Metrocity, when the Solo is already available at single-door lengths?
Also seems that Optare have now discontinued the Versa and Tempo, instead offering the Metrocity up to 11.5m - similar to the DXE-length MMCs replacing the enviro 300.
