Maybe Orpington was the testbed to see how it worked and it wasn't so favourable. I know after the re shaping attempt in 1968 afterwards it was said bus changes would happen in a more organic fashion rather then wholesale changes to an area. I guess what it meant was when the time seemed right for the 12 to be pulled back to Norwood junction it was happen, later on again when it was felt the route needed shortening its was pulled back to Penge to East Acton and so on

Would anyone say the H network in Hounslow was the only other attempt at the Roundabout network in London? The S routes in Sutton were more about bring buses closer to homes and organically developed over the years and didnt actully replace any parts of existing routes really. Similar to the W series. What about the B routes in Bexleyheath?

I always assumed the Roundabout project was a success, however the exact opposite was the case with Bexleybus.
When the R1-R6 was proposed, was there any other proposals that didn’t happen?

Bexleybus and Kingstonbus were more about operations rather then route changes I thought? Not an expert on Bexley. But Kingston was a big change and the next biggest scheme to be implemented after Roundabout. K1, K2 & K3 are largely intact since their introduction. K1 has had a small extension in New Malden, K2 has lost the Chessington Industrial Estate bifurcation and K3 its Holroyd Road service (but gained lengthy extension to Roehampton, which in itself replaced the K6 roads)

The K1 i think didnt reach Kingston initially as it replaced the 152 between New Malden and Tolworth I think with a new link to Surbiton.

I remember heading over that way to try it out. The highlight was ride on a packed LS on the 422. It was horrible. Just as horrible as seeing some nearly new C reg M’s departing Norbiton’s routes and replaced by relicensed DM’s from the training fleet. Scandalous.

Little D reg Metroriders ! (Until FW put DTs on it after they lost the 285)

Throw on the minibuses in the Wandsworth area (28/31/39/170) and you realise just how lucky we are with so many routes re converting to DD.

Yes E1 and E3 downgraded to minibuses. Thankfully fads for smaller buses seem to be over now.
