Interesting video, certainly does show how much the area has changed alongside how much the buses have changed. Seeing Ilford before the Cineworld was build really puts a different spin on the area. Now the area seems really hidden away when back in the early 90s it was quite open. Walthamstow is another area, seeing the bus station building towering over everyone now, it certainly was a very different sight back then.

Romford hasn't really changed that much to be honest. Most of the buses are still running to the same destinations I.e the 248 to Cranham, the 103 to Rainham, the 66 to Leytonstone. Apart from the 296 and 496 split everything else is pretty much the same. It was a lovely sight to see those olympians on the 212 at Chingford and the double deckers on the 34.

If we're talking brand new buses then I think the T-KLFs were indeed the last new step-entrance buses in London. However they weren't specified in the contract. The 83 had actually started its tendered contract in 1997 using ex-London Buslines Leyland Olympians. In 1999 First took the opportunity to upgrade the route with new Volvos (probably offered a cheap deal on buses that had been built for stock), allowing the single-door Olympians to be cascaded to their provincial fleets where they were more suitable.

Yeah I remembered in 1999 those T-reg buses came out when I saw them in Golders Green. It's nice to know that the contract started in 1997 as opposed to 1999.

The Volvo Olympian finished at W reg whilst the last step entrance buses were Scania Cityzens at X reg

I'm glad I asked this as I didn't know volvo olympians were still being made around 2000. Thank you for that. Do you by any chance know one example of the x-reg Scania?

Autocar had one from new - they ended up plating it as OSJ1X from memory. I have the PSV books for both types of vehicles so when I dig it out, I’ll edit this post

Autocar had one from new - they ended up plating it as OSJ1X from memory. I have the PSV books for both types of vehicles so when I dig it out, I’ll edit this post The X-reg Scanias were from a batch of 30 built by Scania / East Lancs in late 1999 for stock. It took a year to sell the whole batch, so the last few ended up with X-reg plates.
The Autocar one was the very last one to be registered. The operator chose a cherished reg (coincidentally an X-reg, but as a suffix!) but it would have been an X-prefix if it had had a normal reg.
The last batch of Volvo Olympians was for Yorkshire Coastliner - there's a brief history of the last one here. I suspect these were the last full-size step-entrance buses built for the UK, even if some of the Scanias were registered later so appear to be newer.
Of course step-entrance midibuses were also still in production at the time. Blue Triangle leased some newish Varios for their short-term contract on the C10 in 2001, at least some of which were V-reg.

It was a shame they didn't last that long in london due to the low floor buses coming in from all angles.

Afternoon Guys. Here's a throwback to 1994 to what used to roam around the streets of Ilford on the 296. (taken from flickr). L888YTT and L888TTT will be the legendary Palatine 2 buses. Those two being the first Volvo Olympians ever built with previous Palatine bodied buses coming from Leyland. To think what is now the cineworld in present day used to be an open space car park

mkay315 for me, the Volvo Olympian in all its various guises is an absolute classic, one of my all time faves (you might be able to tell from my avatar). Really enjoyed these 2 pictures, in particular NV66 on the 12.
