I’m curious about the old route 306, which started from Blackheath to Crystal Palace, much like the 202 does, both routes went exactly the same route (apart from the 306 initially began at Plumstead but was withdrawn from there and that it ran via different roads in the Sydenham area from the 202 route) it ran from 1992 to 1996, so I can see why it was withdrawn because it paralleled the 202 but why was it introduced?

It was a split of the 202 with half the service via one road in Sydenham and the 306 via the other. Eventually the 450 was extended from CP to Lower Sydenham and the 202 returned to full freq.

When the 202 replaced the 108B in 1991 there were complaints from people in Westwood Hill about the loss of their link to the main shopping area in Sydenham so half the service was rerouted that way and renumbered 306. As mentioned it was later replaced by an extension of the 450.
