Standard summer tyres. At times some do get the Mud and Snow, but it is rare and feel many of the tyre contractors fit these to clear away 'old stock' that cannot be sold and getting near the 2 year date from manufacture they tend to use. Stupid one from me but doesn’t it make for a risky operation in a snowy environment? I am a new driver so as soon as I see snow forecast don’t take the car out (of course I know it’s for 1-2 days in a year but keen to know better) Usually buses can get through, bus routes are more likely to be a priority to be cleared/gritted. Hillier parts of suburban London such as the area south of Croydon and the Alexandra palace/Muswell Hill area often suffer worse for routes being curtailed/withdrawn but it is very rare for the entire network to be pulled. The only time I recall it was in early February 2009 when a partial daytime thaw on the 1st was followed by a freeze as night fell, this made conditions icy and treacherous and after a number of buses were involved in collisions all buses were ordered back to base. Services were restored gradually during the afternoon of the 2nd after out-of-service buses had been sent on test runs. Bethnal Green Road by Julian Walker, on Flickr
