Hello
I have created this thread as I thought it will be interesting to hear what everyone has in there mind on what do they think of the current Tube/Rail network and what could be done to improve it to make it better.

I'd aim to reinstate atleast 1 tph from both Amersham and Chesham fast again. Maybe 2 tph could run from Baker Street to Rickmansworth to maintain the desired 8 tph from stations Northwood to North Harrow and allow a fast and all station each hour from Amersham/Chesham.
Aside from adding 8 minutes to the off peak journey times since 2011 it has now opened up a 15 minute journey time difference between the Chiltern line to Marylebone and the Met from Amersham to Baker Street. Anybody checking train times in advance will always now plan their journey around the Chiltern service as even if only going to Harrow on the Hill you can still skip 5 stations.

All I can say is Northern Line split! I can't remember the exactly how many more tph there would be on both lines but it was much higher, and wouldn't be difficult to do- only Camden Town station needs to be modified. TFL have been trying for at least 20 years and was almost about to go ahead with upgrades to Camden Town until Crossrail overran and they put the project on hold. The only problem would be rolling stock, there aren't enough trains already with the Battersea extension so new trains would need to be ordered or cascaded to other lines (clearance may be an issue) This has been proposed before, it has been suggested that a new fleet of 7-car trains be ordered for the Jubilee Line to increase capacity, with the existing 1996 stock moving over to the Northern Line (they are virtually identical to the 1995 stock).

Originally both lines were to recieve them directly but more recently updated for just the Jubilee Line to get them to free up a chunk of their 96 stock to join the 95s on the Northern Line.

They really need to brand the Overground as separate lines and give them different colours on the tube map.

They really need to brand the Overground as separate lines and give them different colours on the tube map. You could probably make the same argument for the DLR services (or at least number the routes). Only trouble is you risk having too many colours on the tube map which won't help people with partial vision or colourblindness.

They really need to brand the Overground as separate lines and give them different colours on the tube map. Very early on I believe the East London line was going to remain that and was going to be extended. Not sure if I was initially was going to use tube style trains. This was back in 2004 atleast.

I am no fan of splitting the Northern line, primarily because the inconvenience it will give to thousands of passengers on a daily basis even after a successful Camden Town upgrade. I think that passenger numbers need to be look at post Covid, with more people working from home the peak hour crush may be lessened, negating the need to split the line. Given TfL finances this would not be on my priority list.

Given TfL finances this would not be on my priority list. It would be a pretty simple split though once the Battersea extension opens. One half Edgware to Battersea and the other High Barnet to Morden with an interchange at both Kennington and Camden Town. It would enable more trains through each core without the need to crossover at the interchange points. The line is pretty much split anyway after Camden with few off peak services through to Morden on the Charing Cross branch. A split would formalise it. Even after Covid-19 I would expect northern line numbers to rebound pretty quickly, it’s a key route from South London into Central and serves highly unique population centres.

Post covid, increase frequency of Piccadilly Line to Heathrow , existing Northfields trains extended
Early Sunday am trips to London on Southeastern from Gravesend
Extend Met Line to Aylesbury and use spare Chiltern Trains units on increased frequency to High Wycombe with extra tracks laid between Wembley Stadium and High Wycombe.

I belive the current plan is for half the Charing X trains to terminate at Kennington still. Probaly due to lack of trains for the full service anyways and I'm assuming there is a desire to keep those 4 tph Charing X trains to Morden in the peaks.

Given TfL finances this would not be on my priority list. One of the benefits of the splitting is trains serving Camden Town quicker¹ with less time waiting in the tunnels and on platforms for the various track junctions to switch. This would be somewhat reminisant of when the Stanmore branch of the Bakerloo Line became the Jubilee Line, there speeding up southbound trains through Baker Street. ¹ - therefore reduced running time end to end

I found this from the rail technology magazine. (It's in TPH) From this I would assume if it were to split it would more likely be High Barnet-Charing Cross-Battersea and Edgware-Bank-Morden I understood it to be Edgware to Battersea & High Barnet to Morden otherwise you've still got the crossover journeys at Camden which I thought the point of splitting the liens was to eliminate the crossover being used for in service trains?

I understood it to be Edgware to Battersea & High Barnet to Morden otherwise you've still got the crossover journeys at Camden which I thought the point of splitting the liens was to eliminate the crossover being used for in service trains? I managed to find a diagram of the crossover and the two route I stated doesn’t actually crossover once. I shaded the diagram for clarity, and tunnels unshaded would become disused, and probably fall into the use of engineering trains and empty stock movements. View Attachmentlight blue= southbound High Barnet via Charing X red= southbound Edgware via bank yellow= Northbound Bank to Edgware green= northbound Charing X to High Barnet It would make sense why the diagram I posted earlier (the one with tph) is true as there isn’t one crossover (although there is one point where they travel through the same crossover tunnel thing but they do not crossover) This is a far better representation of the junctions at Camden Town. husk.org/www.geocities.com/athens/acropolis/7069/ltcamden.jpg
