There wasn’t a general DLR thread so I thought I’d make one.
Jago Hazzard did an interesting video on why the Island Gardens incident back in 1987 actually happened:
For those who don’t know, in March 1987 (16 and 3/4 of a year before I was born!) DLR train 04 (now a tram in Essen, Germany) ended up hanging off the end of the original Island Gardens station (at the end of the Millwall viaduct) just months before the line’s opening

Was there or are there any plans to have the DLR a weekend night service like the Tube?

Was there or are there any plans to have the DLR a weekend night service like the Tube? Not for the foreseeable future, but possibly in the next few years depending on TfL and Covid recovery

Was there or are there any plans to have the DLR a weekend night service like the Tube? I don't think there is any need - the DLR doesn't serve many areas with large-scale nighttime activity, and night buses in the area are able to cope.

But what about the links from one side of the Thames to the other?

But what about the links from one side of the Thames to the other? The 108 covers that and seems to cope on a 30-minute headway on weekend nights. There is also the Jubilee Line.

I agree with this for now, it's certainly no priority. Would make more sense to try and prioritise getting the lower half of the Circle Line a night service instead. However I imagine as we do move to the future, probably quite far into the future I can see a night DLR service becoming a reality. As more and more lines start getting night services over the forthcoming decades TfL will gradually be working down the pecking order of lines to get a night service and will eventually come across the DLR.

Agreed - The DLR runs in lots of residential areas and don't think too many would be impressed with all night running. I get woken enough already with horns being used as trains run empty through stations at the start and end of service. Also have to consider safety as stations are not staffed could be interesting when alcohol is involved late at night. The N550 and N551 covers large sections from Beckton towards Tower Gateway and night Jubilee Line covers the Stratford to Canning Town section.

What about Woolwhich Arsenal? 472 does that from North Greenwich which anyone can change there for the 108 and the Jubilee Line when the Night Tube is running. Woolwich also has the N1 & N53 that runs to/from Central London at night.

If the DLR does gain a night service in the future I’m thinking they would run services from Bank to Lewisham/Woolwich/Beckton first at a 10 minute frequency , I don’t see the Canning Town - Stratford Internationsl section gaining a night service as this runs alongside the Jubilee line

Yes but nowhere near as the DLR, some tracks are very close to houses and flats especially on the Silvertown Way and parts of the Beckton branch. Don't think you can compare the Underground to the DLR.

DLR isn't really that busy to Woolwich with "party people" even on a Friday night. In terms of the rest of the network, we were busy (pre-Covid) from Canary Wharf and West India Quay to Stratford, Bank and Lewisham on Thursday and Friday evenings. Saturday evenings are relatively quiet compared

Services would probably be exactly the same as daytime service with a reduced frequency but certainly wouldn't wouldn't as busy as the Night Tube as, really, West India Quay etc don't really have the draw of the West End
