Can we have a sensible debate?

Going to have to go Titan for 2 reasons that it appeals to me:
Titan always sounded better to me than the screechy/whinny Metro.....Titan always sounded more refined!
Titan you could drive semi-auto manually selecting gears.

This is a nice thread thats been created. It's a hard one for me but I think the metrobus just about edges it for me.

It's the Titan all day for me. I remember when they did comparative trials of both types on the 51 out of Sidcup in 1982. The Titan gave by far the better ride when I tried them out and I haven't changed my opinion since! A smooth and comfortable bus in my experience of travelling on them daily to school and a great passenger bus, although there was a tendency to brake squeal on occasion. I remember being so disappointed by the Ls when they started, they felt like a real step backwards in quality.

For me it has to be the Titan. I grew up in the 80s and 90s so these buses played a big part in me becoming interested in buses.
A few memories include moving the Manor Park in 1988 and seeing the 25 running with Bus It adverts on front. Then later in the early 90s the X15 used them after converting to OPO.
And of course the 241 has been my local route for over 30 years. Was a sad day when the route for downgraded to MRL mini buses!

Metrobus, because that's what I was brought up with (AR, E & WN), but the Titan always felt like a more refined product.

Hahaha oh come on. As much as BK and NS had those good titans. The Metrobuses edged it for me. Especially in North London when visiting family πππ. *sighs* I know I let the side down but it was hard as they're both good. Though to be fair Romford had some metrobuses mainly on the 165 and 365.

It's the Metro for me hands down. Besides growing up with them and eventually driving them I love the overall sounds of the engine, retarder and axle...somewhat the predecessor of the DB250 in that respect. It's also to me the best looking box shaped decker, especially when they first came out with the black front grills with the surrounding metal frame. I also loved that amongst the 1442 buses built for London Transport M1084-M1105 plus M1442 were fitted with the Cummin unit with M1104 spec'd with a supped up turbo plus a longer gearhold on the kickdown... a predecessor to the euro3 DB250 in that respect.
Despite my preference of the Metros I would've loved the opportunity to have tried out the Titan, especially with the hill start function which I reckon I would have regularly use on my last trip before my meal relief/end of shift. I still reckoned I would have preferred the Metro for its Voith transmission. Also, i never really liked the rear of the Titan with that half window, but i do find it interesting that their engines sound a bit like the very early DMSs (with the headlights closer to the middle).

Unlike many others who grew up with one or the other, I was lucky enough to have lots of rides in my area of both types and subsequently, it puts me in a difficult position so sorry but I have to abstain from the vote. Two fantastic buses though Shame the poor Olympian wasn't mentioned though

I remember the trial at SP and I always preferred the Titan, just a better all round bus I thought and I wasn't greatly impressed with the L's either.

Do you remember later on in their life the brake thudding sound T's would do, absolutely deafening it was. Meanwhile, when M's were getting long in the tooth, the gear changes would be met with a clunk

It would have to be the Titan for me. That is down to they were in my area more than anything and grew fond on them. It was the bus that got me liking buses. As it was modern and was not a cold drafty old Routemaster. I hated as a child riding the Routemaster as it was freezing downstairs with the open platform.
I prefered the sound of the Titan, it sounded so different to the Metrobus even though they had the same engine. I guess it was down to the Leyland hydracylic Vs the Voith in the Metrobus. I prefered the colour of the Titan interior compared to the brown version of the Metrobus. I did not like the asymetrical windscreen on the Metrobus. The Titan I did not like the rear lower deck window layout which looked dated like a Fleetline. I never got to drive a Metrobus. Drove the Titans and loved them, although brakes were not that strong as they all had the retarders switched off due to them making a lot of noise screeching the brakes. The ride on the Titan felt a lot more better than the Metrobus The area I lived the nearest Metros were on the 34. Everything else was just Titan and Leyland National and the Routemaster.

A trait of the Voith gearbox that happened with Tridents and DB250LF's
