This thread is dedicated to roads which buses go down which clearly aren't cut out for buses!
I'll go first- Sandycoombe Road in Kew. If you've ever been on the 110/391 chances are you've been stuck between parked cars, or even have to mount the pavement if you run into a bus going the other way. Well used but a very annoying road to drive down.

I nominate every road from East Ham to Ilford on the 147! Mainly poor parking and car users not moving in to give way to buses causing stand offs usually with the car reversing eventually.

I vote for Cudham Lane on the R5/R10. Completely unsuited to the buses allocated to it but my goodness what a fun route to drive!

I vote for Holburne Road on the 386. It's like diverting the 469 to go via Penmon Road.

If the 147 was introduced today I'm pretty sure it'd be restricted to 9.6m Enviro200s if it had to use those roads. Honestly marvel at how the drivers negotiate it really well. Another addition, not a tricky road, but more so a tricky turn I'd say is the 62s turn from Gascoigne Road onto the A13. The route needs to perform a 90 degree turn from a standstill right onto a 50mph road where cars are always flying at you and they almost always require two lanes in order to do this, or one lane and a hump of the curb. It's hard enough in a car so the drivers really earn their money there.

Another tight turn is from Ruscoe Road into Rogers Road on routes 147/241 - hard to imagine buses used to run this way in both directions up to the year 2000!

That’s a bad one agree Another tricky one similar to this is for the 132, 286 and 335 northbound while exiting from Rochester Way onto the A2 spur / exit going onto the sun in the sands roundabout. The rochester way is a slightly uphill blind exit onto a the A2 spur which is a 50mph road (you can’t see anything till you are at the stop line) and you have vehicles flying to get to the sun in the sands roundabout. I had a tricky one a few weeks back when I thought I had enough time while exiting and the car from the A2 spur caught up in no time

It no longer exists but before the Herne Hill junction was partially rebuilt, the left turn from Norwood Road into Dulwich Road was stupidly tight for anything other than cars which meant buses and other larger vehicles would almost be forced to ride over the kerb to the point the kerb sunk down to road level. The pavement here was also stupidly tight meaning pedestrians had trouble passing each other. Thank god the current junction is a massive improvement over what we had before

Funny enough the 147 was restricted to short Tridents (TAS) until its contract renewal in 2011 when it get the ex route 15 Tridents. Not sure what changed to allow the longer buses? if anything the roads probably got worse.

Thank god the current junction is a massive improvement over what we had before During the 90s the SP class Optare Spectras on the 3/N3 were swapped around with the Titans from the 35 and 45. IIRC it lasted the best part of a month until street infrastructure was adjusted. This of couse was a few years prior to the improvements you mentioned.

Woodstock Way in Mitcham gets quite narrow halfway along from Grove Road to Meopham Road, often resulting in a 152 bus having to reverse should two buses meet without enough prior caution. It doesn’t help that the road starts narrowing at the bend.
