TfL Press Release - Louise Cheeseman appointed Director of Buses PN-074 Move to TfL follows 20-year career in transport, including at Serco Docklands, Manchester Metrolink and most recently Hull TrainsLouise joins TfL at a crucial time to help lead a sustainable recovery from the pandemic and the de-carbonisation of the bus network Louise Cheeseman, currently Managing Director of Hull Trains, will move to Transport for London (TfL) on 2 August as its new Director of Buses. Louise will join TfL from Hull Trains, where she has been Managing Director since 2018 and has achieved significant improvements in both performance and customer experience, while overseeing the introduction of a new fleet of more environmentally friendly trains. Louise started her career in transport as a train guard for Hull Trains in 2001. Before starting her role as Managing Director of Hull Trains, Louise held key operations and safety roles at Serco Docklands and the Metroline tram network in Manchester. Gareth Powell, Managing Director of Surface Transport at TfL, said: “I’m thrilled that Louise will be joining us to lead the decarbonisation of London’s buses while helping this iconic form of transport support London’s sustainable recovery. Louise’s proven track record of success in operations and people leadership stood out in a high-calibre field of candidates. Good luck to her, she may need it in the current climate... It's noticeable that all her background is in rail based transport and the emphasis on decarbonisation is interesting.

I think the current climate will be a challenge, but I think someone from "slightly" outside of the industry may well bring fresh ideas and maybe help refresh TfL buses so it's fit for the future. Having worked with Louise Cheeseman in the past I know she can certainly bring some fresh eyes to things

I've not watched it but this podcast interview with Louise Cheeseman from November 2020 may well be of interest.
