Purfleet Station, on the c2c route between London Fenchurch Street and Grays via Rainham, is to be rebuilt as part of a £1billion housing and regeneration project which will also see the abolition of the road level crossing immediately to the south of the Station. The current station building and ticket office is due to be demolished in the near future, this will allow London Road to be realigned to the north where it will cross the railway line via a bridge - directly over where the buildings currently stand. A temporary ticket office will be provided whilst the bridge is constructed, once that has taken place a new ticket office and footbridge will be provided. The regeneration work will see 155 acres of warehousing and light industrial units replaced by a new town centre, up to 2,850 new homes, and integrated medical centre and a new primary school. It is proposed that the area will be renamed Purfleet-on-Thames and the new name may also be applied to the rebuilt railway station.
