Hello, I also have a question about iBus. Has anyone ever experienced that the automatic bus stop announcements have and displays have failed?
What do we do then? Does the bus driver announce the most important stops himself?
Many greetings
Marc

Does the bus driver announce the most important stops himself? Many greetings Marc Displays have failed from time to time - drivers won't usually announce stops if this happens. The only thing a driver would announce himself would be if anyone is causing trouble or if a stop is closed - the I-bus announcement would also be played for the latter situation.

Hello, . Is it sometimes only the displays that don't work on the bus or also the stop announcements? On our bus, sometimes the displays don't work either, but the announcements continue to work anyway.
What is it like in London? If the displays on the buses don't work, do the announcements on the bus not work either?
Has anyone actually experienced the bus driver making announcements in this day and age?
I think in this day and age, when the automatic displays and announcements fail, the drivers should definitely announce the stops, that's part of the service. Or the bus must be replaced immediately if it is defective.
Many greetings
Marc

If iBus is not working you get nothing ... no driver announcements. IBus is not the operators responsibility, it is TfLs. The operators will not sub a bus for a defect they are not responsible for. Would you rather no bus or a bus without working iBus? iBus is ancient now and imagine getting certain spares are hard due to obsolescence How many more times do you intend to ask the same question?

Hello, I would like the bus driver to announce the stops without being asked if the automatic system is defective. It is not about the bus being completely out of service if the Ibus is defective. I have experienced in Germany that the bus drivers announced the stops when the automatic system was defective. That would also be possible in London.
Best regards
Marc

I once went on a 391 (those were the good old days!) where the driver turned off the iBus speaker just so he could announce the stops himself! It once came on but he promptly turned it off so it was working. The dot matrix showed the bus stops and the time.

Well, some readers are better than others now even! I remember going on a day out with my mum and her oyster didn't work on RATP buses but it was fine on Abellio, Metroline and Tower Transit buses! So we were sitting on Kensington High Street and letting all the 9s and the 28s pass.

Service complaint CRM001:0630000006169 Transport for London TRANSPORT FOR LONDON Ref: 16580880
25 March 2022
Dear Mr Moll
Thank you for your feedback form of 12 March suggesting that drivers make service announcements when the iBus system fails.
We agree with your suggestion, it is part of the guidance we provide to bus operators and it is also included in the Big Red Book bus driver manual. Our advice is in bus driver training (including our recent Hello London programme) with supporting materials like reminders. All companies additionally provide forums where experienced drivers coach new drivers into the skills of making announcements and how to say it.
We encourage drivers to take the initiative and make periodic service announcements when they iBus system on their buses isn't working as we believe it helps people to travel independently. We do conduct monitoring to ensure drivers are abiding with our guidance. However, we review feedback and comments from customers who contact us, which can include matters such as how we manage issues on buses and provide information to the public. Comments both positive and negative are relayed to the bus operating companies to make them aware and consider how they might improve the service. We also have a mystery shopper style survey called the Bus Customer Experience Survey (BCES). One of its measures is ‘Driver Announcements when there is are issues' helping us look at areas where we might need to improve or maintain standards. Thanks again for contacting us. If there is anything else we can help you with, please reply to this email. Alternatively, you can call us on 0343 222 1234 and we'll be happy to help you.
Kind regards

Is this really done by the bus drivers in reality? Who has experienced that the bus drivers announce the stops when the I-bus is not working?
