The 246 is another route which is the definition of a pinball route. I don’t think it has ever been retained in the modern era of tendering. Did it gain a two year extension in 2013 though? It has been passing back and forth between Metrobus Orpington and Stagecoach at every contract renewal since 2003 in the following pattern: 2003: Metrobus 2008: Stagecoach 2015: Metrobus 2020: Stagecoach I’d also say the 455 as that’s changed hands at the last three contract renewals but didn’t Arriva retain the route in 2007? The 434 would have also gone the same way but Go-Ahead changed that by retaining the route in 2018 and recently gaining its first two year extension. 2008-2010 was ELBG

Another one's the 493, up until 2019:
Mitcham Belle / Centra (MC) 2002 - 2006 Armchair / Metroline (AH) 2006 - 2007 NCP Challenger / Transdev (NC) 2007 - 2012 London General 2012 -
It also was operated by Metroline for only 84 days!

378 Metroline (2019-2019) Go Ahead London (2019- Shortest contract ever? Just 17 days with Metroline. Still to this day I'm baffled as to why TfL didn't delay the 209/378 split until Go-Ahead took over the route. It was pointless having Metroline on it for just 17 days IMO.

Ah yes, it did have step entrance Darts from 1997 until the DWL's were introduced in 2003 but I have very little memory of them. The only MK1 Darts I remember seeing in London were the 166's DPP's which were replaced mid-contract by DWL's off the 319.

They had started it as a commercial route, but in May 2002 it was absorbed into the TfL network (along with a number of other routes such as the 358) and awarded to Metrobus on a short-term contract pending full retendering.
It did get an extension in 2013, otherwise it wouldn't have started a new contract in 2015!

What about the 257? It was with First Capital until 2005 (I don't know if it was retained then) but since then it was with Stagecoach for 7 years, then onto GAL for 5 (originally at BE but then moving to NP) then moving back to SLN.

I don’t think the 257 ever actually went to BE. It was intended to start its contract there when it was awarded but the by the time the contract started NP had been purchased so it went straight there. You must be thinking of the 20 as that started at BE and later went to NP.

16 been with metroline since 1997 332 been with metroline since was created in 2007 Not being rude but this thread is for bus routes that have never been retained, not bus routes that have stayed with the same operator (there is a thread for that).

Just saw that the 67 might be a contender: Prior to 1996 - Modern-day ALS garages but more info 1996 - 2001 Capital Citybus (NP) 2001 - 2006 Stagecoach (BW) 2006 - 2013 First/LG (NP) 2013 - 2020 Arriva (SF, some buses stored at AR at times) 2020 + London General (NP)

I’ve only ever known the 61 and 314 routes being operated by Stagecoach London ( Selkent). Atleast for over 20 years or so.
The R routes seem to only be operated by GoAhead ( Metrobus) with the exception of the R 5, R 10 and R 7 that went to Stagecoach for a while. I’m not sure if Stagecoach still operate those routes or not now though. I don’t think those 3 routes are particularly busy or make much profit so was surprised Stagecoach wanted them when they did.
