Currently on holiday in Manchester and am regularly using the 192 bus, which is famous for being the busiest bus route in the country, outside London.
The 192 route has a PVR of 40, which thanks to the PVR cut of the (London) 38, now means London has now lost the crown of the biggest PVR single bus route in the country. And I can’t think of any provincial route anywhere else in the country that matches it, beats it, or comes close to it. (I believe London’s biggest is now the 36, with a PVR of 38)
What a sad indictment of what London’s bus network is becoming.

Ironic really when you think about all the complaints on this forum about the 38 being over-bussed. Careful what you wish for ....

I'm surprised it isn't one of First SimpliCitys routes in Glasgow given the considerable length they are and how densely populated some of the areas in Glasgow they pass through. Or even some of Lothian's services.

What are fares like these days?

The Enviro400s that run on those routes have great motors that remind me of ALX400s (I also think this variant of Enviro400 used to run on the 61, and I can sometimes hear them at night on driver training runs).

The variant of Enviro 400 that used to run on the 61 is identical to every other diesel Enviro 400 (bar the 3 VE's with Go-Ahead), the only major difference to other examples was it was a LWB model. They had the same Cummins engine as all the others and had the same Voith gearbox as Go-Ahead E1-39 & Quality Line DD01-10

It just says ‘unlimited travel on all Stagecoach and Magic Bus services in Greater Manchester’, so the whole of the Greater Manchester network although what I’m not sure of is where the greater Manchester boundary is, very much not my local area

Isn't Manchester Ox Road the busiest bus corridor in Britain as well?

Isn't Manchester Ox Road the busiest bus corridor in Britain as well? Id be very surprised if Walworth Road in London isn’t at least a very strong contender for the busiest bus corridor in Britain with all the bus routes that bottleneck into it? Although no figures to back that up

Although no figures to back that up I don't know about the Walworth Road but I'd definitely throw in as contenders for the busiest corridors as Brixton Hill, the Romford Road, Oxford Road & the Stockport to Manchester section of the 192. The 192 runs every 3 minutes alone between Stockport & Manchester Piccadilly. Having said that sone Lothian routes could be up there. Is there an official list of the most used bus services in the UK?

What are fares like these days? Then again that corridor is the busiest corridor in the UK and Manchester has very little in the way of rail infrastructure. Buses are heavily relied upon in Manchester and even with East Midlands Railway/Northern following a service like the 192 (being the busiest in the UK outside of London) I think it's clear that Manchester is fairly behind in regards to rail infrastructure if bus corridors need to be that intense. What I will say though is competitively between operators the corridor is madness. I read somewhere there's an average of 3 passengers per bus but certainly during the leaks it could be completely different.

It does have the very extensive Metrolink trams though, so I wouldn’t say it’s fallen behind with its rail network, even though it’s technically not a train it’s close enough. No in terms of official figures I don’t think there’s anywhere you can find official usage figures, only TfL publish theirs. HOWEVER Stagecoach have written in an article that the 192 carries around 10 million passengers a year and is the busiest regional (presumably by that meaning ‘provincial’) bus route in the UK, and they wouldn’t be allowed to just write that if it wasn’t true. Obviously like all bus routes Covid heavily distorted that figure, but in a ‘normal’ year 10 million passengers a year is enormous especially for a provincial route, definitely can’t think of a route that’d get even close. 10mill a year is up there with the holy grail of busiest London bus routes, so it is an absolute force to be reckoned with. Manchester would certainly benefit from a TfL-like bus model, because there are so many bus operators in Manchester which all obviously have non transferable tickets so you would need multiple tickets to get around different parts of Manchester, which unsurprisingly is grossly inconvenient.
