By the middle of the month (January 2022) reduced timetables will be in operation across the entire GB rail network.
This is due to high levels of covid-related absence amongst train operating staff, and also reflects that passenger numbers have fallen again as people avoid travel due to the high rate of infections since the Omicron variant took hold - numbers are currently around 50% down on pre-covid levels.
