VLA176 will be out in service tomorrow. Oh sick man which Rail replacement will this be on? And what are the timings for departure? Was on Hounslow to Windsor. I no longer publish times for jobs, but will if it's an enthusiast's event with a published timetable list of allocations.

Going back to this do you just do Newbury park runs or do you also do other services for them?

Going back to this do you just do Newbury park runs or do you also do other services for them? For Abellio Greater Anglia I only really do jobs from Newbury Park as starting/finishing further out means hours and mileage poured into long dead runs which really erodes the profit. Though if they were to ask, I could do other routes. Some of the other suppliers come from far to do the work - I saw operators from Felixstowe and Norwich at Newbury Park last time, for the latter that’s between 180 and 210 miles of dead running! Though the coaches and single deckers they were using would be far better on fuel than a thirsty VLA. Even a heavyweight rigid Citaro only drinks half of what those B7s do.

Fleet updates23065 - Work has been carried out. The throttle has been recalibrated to allow 100% load and the kickdown to work correctly without having to press it through the floor and wriggle it around. Many jobs have been carried out to the interior - seat repairs, installation of grab handles, replacement chin protectors, repairs to the turntable area and some improvements to the condition of the flooring. Lots of things have been done with the engine. It remains to be seen if this livens it up so it performs like 23050. The wheelchair ramp has been looked at but is uneconomical to repair due to seized parts, cabling issues and internal corrosion. If anyone buys a bus with the intention of using it, make sure the ramp is working and if it isn't proven by the seller to work there and then, walk away or consider that you'll pay up to four figures to put it right. It's likely to have the cassette ramp replaced with a fold out ramp. Further work required to prep for MOT. The exhaust system and chassis need attention before it turns a wheel in anger again. SPV1 - Pink nearside mirror has been replaced with an original Citaro mirror. I'm not keen on short mirror arms that are difficult to see properly. A blown headlight bulb was replaced this week and currently VOR with a windscreen crack. How it formed is a mystery as there was no chip - put down to extreme weather and demanding terrain. There are a few things on the shopping list - it needs a 5 or 6 button gear selector to assist with tackling mountainous gradients and the front Hanover needs repairing to get rid of the colour pad that was retrofitted. That was a mod - the original orange LED pads have no problems but that colour pad has burnt diodes and a very strange hue of orange. It's a rock solid bus mechanically. SPV2 - came down from Scotland and is being prepped. Unlike SPV1, a lot jobs needed doing before I'm satisfied it's fit, like air leak repairs, rectification of electrical issues, an oil change and front Hanover repairs. The retrofitted colour pad seemed to have caused a problem that prevents it from working. It was hand delivered to Hanover last week to have that mod undone and a standard orange LED pad fitted. The gearbox shift pattern is to be changed - at the moment it has some ~1800rpm kickdown (except in 5th which does go to 2200rpm) without the ability to downshift as readily as I'd expect from a Citaro. It also wants a Citaro nearside mirror and 5/6 button selector. Note neither these, nor future vehicles with the SPV fleet code are a part of the preserved collection. But if there's interest I'll continue to post about them in this thread. TA23 - stored unserviceable pending a review of the repairability of the engine. VLA170 - on long term hire to another operator VLA176 - on short term hire to other operators VNW32423 - VOR with engine in terminal condition. What happens with this vehicle is dependent on future acquisitions. Buses will be coming and going from the fleet - lots of activity to take place over the coming months. That's all for now.

Second SPV! Interested to see what batch it originally came from when the chance to sample it comes around.

Does SPV stand for Super Performance Vehicle ?

Does SPV stand for Super Performance Vehicle ? Almost I should have clarified this before! SPV stands for Special Purpose Vehicle and will be given to the non-preserved element of the fleet which has no sentimental value. The VNW is an exception to that as it was only drafted in to cover while VLA176 had its engine issues worked on. With respect to power, the vehicles are maintained intensively and must be in good working order, which means delivering the power output they were designed to. Any limp mode, derate, low power etc. is investigated and dealt with!

Fleet updatesVNW32423 - VOR with engine in terminal condition. What happens with this vehicle is dependent on future acquisitions. If kept could a 6.7L Cummin engine be theoratically considered as a retrofit or would it likely be a refurbished D7C? I'm guessing the latter's more economical with less possible hassles with general ECU remapping.

However there are no plans to re-engine it at the moment.
