Fleet updates
23065 - been busy delving into the innards of the vehicle. It has become apparent that it came with a number of issues which require specialist attention. These will all be dealt with in due course.
TA23 - has had a lot of mechanical attention over the last two days as well as a PMI. I’m now happy with the rebuilt gearbox that was recently installed, despite it being noiser than the last one it had. From up front it sounds slightly whinier and the retarder is constantly making its presence known, though those sound effects can be switched off with the flick of a switch.
It has had a faulty dashboard sensor replaced and some electrical gremlins have been resolved - an investigation traced this to time worn wiring within the alternator. A recent overheating issue was traced to airlocks in the water circuit. The system has been bled and replenished and the problem has been resolved.
I was going to adjust the load sensor so the gearbox could only detect 79% throttle input but with the water flowing and fan livened up some, decided against this.
VLA176 - serviceable.
Another vehicle has joined the fleet and will be out working in the near future.
That’s all for now.

It was my first time on it and I nearly missed it as I was on the last feeder bus to Purley. What an excellent bus and its just amazing that it's in good shape and in retro colours. Long live TA23!!!!!😉 Any chance you know when it's next coming out?

Just wondering if RBH will be out on Staines to Reading rail replacement this weekend? ‘Fraid not, doing one trip from Surbiton to Strawberry Hill allocated Mercedes Citaro-G, but that’s it. In other news, first e-rail for Replacement Bus Hire this week. VLA176 was dispatched to work from Surbiton because of emergency services dealing with an incident on the mainline.

BL57 OXJ, which I have chosen to number MAL108 is the new addition to the fleet. It worked the 0115 Surbiton to Strawberry Hill trip as far as Kingston this morning. No passengers to set down so straight back to base.

Update I rode it from Hounslow - Ascot and my god is it quick. The amount of time and effort you put into it really shows as it is an amazing bus 😅. Glad I was able to ride this early afternoon

The amount of time and effort you put into it really shows as it is an amazing bus 😅. Glad I was able to ride this early afternoon Thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed it! I've booked it into the workshop as a few things require attention before it gets to the stage where they cause a problem. Intensive work keeping on top of the maintenance! In the meantime, fleet updates. 23065 is being prepped for MOT and will have work done on its Hanovers, electric ramp, air conditioning blowers and exterior lights. MAL108 has been earning its keep on emergency rail replacement and did a shift at short notice on Ascot to Aldershot the Sunday before last. TA23 will be the next in for work on its radiator and water circuit. PSVAR upgrades are now complete, all that's required for official conformity is a certificate. VLA170 is still stored serviceable, but is now surplus to requirements. It was only ever taken on to tide me over and get the operation started while waiting for VLA176 to be dug out from Arriva's storage yard and restored to working condition. It's a good bus, but it has fulfilled its purpose and is now up for sale as a complete vehicle.
