I don't know about it being more upmarket, but considering the Westfield in Stratford is the biggest shopping centre in Europe, I reckon more people would want to go there if it takes the same time. I thought that the one in Shepherds Bush after it’s extension was the largest. Yes, I just searched it up, turns out its at 4th in the UK now.

But who's going to go from Peckham to Shepherds Bush Anyone who wants to go to Westfields. Then they would take the overground and change where necessary

But the 148 gets rammed and could do with some help. Defend it all you like, there are far better ways to spend scarce money than this idea. Traffic levels are such that it would hardly be an express most of the time anyway. Also express routes won't work in inner London except if travelling outwards like the X68 does

It would be nice to see more commuting express routes like the X68 taking pressure off of the tube and trains when most are travelling.

It would be nice to see more commuting express routes like the X68 taking pressure off of the tube and trains when most are travelling. Most commuter-type bus and coach services haven't lasted, due to increasing traffic on main routes into London. The X68 is a rare exception which I daresay has survived as parts of the route (especially around the Beulah Hill area) are poorly connected to rail services. Heavily-peaked commuter operations are also expensive to resource unless you can find a use for the vehicles and drivers between the peaks. Peak-time rail usage has still not recovered to pre-pandemic levels, so the pressure on rail services is nothing like as severe as it once was.

Would this be viable?
X25 West Croydon to Bluewater (2bph DD at first) Stops: West Croydon, East Croydon, Shirley, West Wickham, Hayes, Locksbottom, Orpington, St Mary Cray, Ruxley, Bexley, Dartford, Bluewater

Only chance of it surviving would be by the old 725 route Dartford, Bexley, Sidcup, Chislehurst, Bromley, Beckenham, Croydon.

Giving it a quick go (and under the assumption the X routes can go beyond the terminus of its regular version).... X59: Kings Cross to Streatham Station - limited stoppings at Waterloo, Kennington (Oval), Brixton, Streatham Hill Station and Streatham Station X109: Brixton to Purley - limited stoppings at Streatham Station, Norbury, Thornton Heath Garage, Croydon Town Centre (Wellesley Road) and Purley I think your X59 and X109 ideas should be merged but with a twist, so, King’s Cross - Purley via route 59, 109 until Colliers Water Lane (Thornton Heath Pond), Thornton Road, Mitcham Road, Rowan Way, Old Town, Croydon Flyover/Park Lane/Park Street/St George’s Walk/Fell Road (double run), Duppas Hill Road, Stafford Road, Purley Way. Limited stop, only stopping at Waterloo Station/Tenison Way (Stop K) (towards Kings X only), Waterloo Station/Waterloo Road (Stop D) (towards Purley only), Brixton Station (Stop P/R), Streatham Station (Stop SC/SJ), Norbury Station (Stop A/B), Thornton Heath Pond/Fairlands Avenue (Stop K/L), Fairfield Halls (Stop KD) (towards Kings X only), Park Street Stop KH (towards Purley only), Colonnades Leisure Park, Purley Station (Stop Z2) So in a nutshell: Kings Cross, Waterloo, Brixton, Streatham, Norbury, Thornton Heath Pond, Croydon Town Centre, Croydon Colonnades and Purley

Most of the destinations on the route can be easily reached by train, existing bus services or the Underground. On top, a lot of this travels along corridors in Central & Inner London that are full of traffic. Even if such a route were needed, I don't think Waterloo needs two stops whilst missing out Streatham Hill & a more central stop in Croydon than Fairfield Halls/Park Street

As for the corridors full of traffic, I altered the route slightly so it does not have to use London Road for example which can be hell at times. Then again this is not an actual idea, I just created what I thought was a better version of the person’s idea
