Quite shocking seeing the devastation at Wennington on TV, somebody who landed at Heathrow yesterday afternoon said flying over London it looked quite apocalyptic with number of fires burning, apparently it was the fire services busiest day since WW2. There was also a full scale emergency in the sea at Clacton in Essex and sadly lives have been lost elsewhere in rivers and lakes. This is why the advice was to avoid non essential travel and potentially putting more strain on the emergency services and Sadiq Khan has been asking people not to have barbecues at the moment for obvious reasons. Why are you preaching to people on here like they are 5 year olds? The advice given regarding drinking plenty of fluids, apply sunscreen and stay out of the heat as much as possible during the hours of 11:00 to 14:00 is literally the advice you should be taking on any hot day just like the advice about jumping in open water which should be done at places with lifeguards present - none of this is new advice, it’s literally given out every year. The only new bit of advice was regarding disruption on the trains due to speed restrictions & closures. I went out yesterday and followed the advice, the same advice I follow every year, hence I’m not sunburned, not dehydrated or have any other things related.

The fires the last few days have been unreal! The ones in Dagenham never got much TV coverage but look awful with many homes and cars destroyed!
Also now a major tower block fire in North Woolwich!

Come to think of it I don't know whether to laugh or weep. We've lived through the covid 19 pandemic, queues for fuels, extinction rebellion protests, various protests in the UK, England making it to the finals of the Euros, the scavenger hunt for food season (just before covid kicked off) not to mention Bojo resigning and now the heatwave. What a time to be alive. I can add operation London Bridge to this as well

I chuckle to myself now when I recall a front page by the Mail or Express around late 2018 early 2019 about the following decade being known as the “Roaring 20’s” What a joke

Already starting to get a chill in the air in the morning, but we will see what the Emergency Budget brings once things settle down this week. Changes to all currency, passports, stamps will happen in time, then Great British Railways will be in existence from next year... let's see what livery they will choose...
