I believe the closure has now since been cancelled and services will continue.

I believe the closure has now since been cancelled and services will continue. This is what happens when you fail to replace staff who have left through retirement etc although it's now been cancelled this is the risk you run through cuts cuts cuts .

Can’t help but wonder if this was more politics at play.

Closure cancelled but services CL-4 & 5 will still run from 1900 Seriously? What a waste of money? I would have assumed operators had to be paid a fee for the cancellation but this is just pure waste of money and fuel.

Problem is if the contractors have cobbled together vehicles and called drivers in for extra duties then they have to be paid. It isn’t free and would likely cost the operator money to undo everything especially in this climate. If vehicles are refuelled again and again overnight that costs money. However you are right that it shouldn’t have taken an intervention by local MPs and the mayor to get cover, TfL should have adequate resources to train controllers on multiple lines to ensure if in an emergency they can cover.

Could understand if the buses had started running but TfL had a quick turnaround. Surely the sensible thing is pay the operators cancellation fees but not run empty buses! In other cases buses have been on standby then returned to garages and not ran for the sake of it.

In an other job things changed of the promise of extra work / overtime can be canceled why not on the buses?
Again I would totally understand if the buses had started running and then TfL had changed its mind.

I think some serious questions need to asked though about this Central Line closure and the sudden about turn, all very strange.

I can only say what I know, though I definitely agree this isn't the best use of resources. (Also, as a side note Candy Coaches & Bear Buses will be out for anyone interested, along with the main being Sullivans & Ensign)
