I remember him well during my childhood, from his appearance on a few Carry on films and in one of the Doctor Who movies in the '60s through to guest starring in Jackanory and being the voice of Orinico in The Wombles during the '70s...not to also mention that decade him playing one of many unsatisfied customers in Fawty Towers plus his appearances in the Hornby Railway adverts.
I had in more recent years enjoyed his reoccurring return (as a different character) to Doctor Who during the David Tennant/10th Doctor years (2005-10) where he plays Wilfred Mott, the grandad to Catherine Tate's character Donna Noble. As it goes he and Catherine Tate had recently been filming for the show's 60th Anniversary yet to be shown, the show turning 60 on November 23rd 2023. I believe filming was already complete before Bernard's sad passing, which may likely mean that his last new tv appearance will be in next year's Doctor Who.
He will be greatly missed by multi-generations of viewers and as I occasionally watch an old British classic movie/tv show on Sundays as tradition my next one to view in tribute will be Carry On Spying, the film i remember him best in of the Carry On film series.

Recently on Talking Pictures TV I saw Bernard Cribbins in the lead role in a film called Dangerous Davies, about an inept detective, based on the books by Leslie Thomas. I think the film was made about 1980. There is a memorable scene filmed at Elephant and Castle station on a Bakerloo Line train, where Bernard Cribbins beats up a suspect and keeps him on the train as the train carries on to be serviced at the London Road depot. First time round the film passed me by and although the film didn't quite carry off the quirky detective angle, it did grab my interest to buy the book which I really enjoyed and found very funny. Apparently ITV did a series based on the character, this time starring Peter Davison and Sean Hughes in the 1990s, but that also passed me by!
