WHAT YOU’LL SEE
Must start with the trio of routes that are the kingpins of public transportation along the Uxbridge Road: 207, 427 & 607 that carried just shy of a combined total of 20 million pax last year. The 207 and 427, both operated from Abellio’s garage on the Great Western Estate (east of Southall and west of Ealing Hospital) are now 90% operated by hybrid ADL400s but the odd stray diesel example in the 95xx range can still be seen. Meanwhile the Metroline Greenford operated 607 is allocated VMH (EvoSeti). On Abellio strike days it must have been / must be a challenge and spare a thought for the EvoSetis, and indeed their drivers as they tried to “Fit a quart into a pint pot” carrying passengers displaced from the 207 and 427 along Southall Broadway, through Hanwell and Ealing into Acton. At least at King Street there wouldn’t have been a problem as it’s not one of the designated stops on this ‘Limited Stop’ (or should that read ‘Express’ – the debate rages on) 607 route. Incidentally, King Street is the final stop for the 427 before it heads back west to Uxbridge.
The other remaining decked routes are the RATP RP operated 266 (ADE/ADH/VH) that carries a healthy 4.7m pax pa and which terminates a couple of stops east of King Street at Acton Old Town Hall / Salisbury Street and E3 also operated by RATP, but this time from V. The route occasionally gets a mention on LBC’s James O’Brien morning show as it’s his local route – however James doesn’t divulge whether he prefers the ADHs or VHs currently operating the route.
The three single-deck routes are all operated by RATP, but that’s where the similarity ends. The 70 is operated from S by LJ18 plate electric BYD / Alexander Dennis Enviro 20EV MMCs and operates a fascinating route through very varied neighbourhoods including North Kensington thru’ Notting Hill, Queensway and High Street Ken. The western terminus is Chiswick Business Park (London Transport Chiswick Bus Works in old money!) but I’ve just learnt from the ever excellent www.londonbusroutes.net/changes.htm that the route “Owing to security issues in Chiswick Business Park, temporarily revised to start and finish journeys in Bollo Lane (end stop Z, start R), arriving via Roslin Road, Sterling Road, Colville Road and Bollo Lane.” This security issue has also affected the 440 that’s been re-routed – the route that’s pretty much north-south Wembley Stadium – Turnham Green is operated from RP with 10.5m Alexander Dennis Enviro 20D MMCs (DME with YX19 plates). Finally, the 218 is one of two SD routes (along with the 228) acquired by RATP from Tower Transit and from memory originally operated from X, but now from V with 2011 DE.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Another perfectly fine location to view London buses with a reasonable, but not outstanding mix of types.
An excellent point made by ServerKing in the last post that lvf.io/ is your friend for finding out what is going to pass by
