Stephenson's of Essex has registered route 12 between Cambridge and Newmarket, as a partial replacement for one of eighteen routes to be withdrawn by Stagecoach East at the end of October as the operator claims they are "underperforming". Stephenson's will operate between Cambridge and Newmarket from Monday 31st Ocrober, to roughly the same frequency, and the service will be largely commercial although it will receive some support from the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority, and from Suffolk County Council. There has been an angry reaction to the scale of the cuts planned by Stagecoach East, and Dr Nik Johnson, the elected mayor of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, has called for re-regulation of the local bus network. www.route-one.net/news/stephensons-to-take-on-cambridge-to-newmarket-route/

I am concerned in case DWS decide to withdraw more Stagecoach routes than Stagecoach plc would have done as supporters of public transport

Stagecoach’s 72/73 between Bedford and Biggleswade are also being saved, by Grant Palmer. Unlike the currently hourly service on each route offering an overall half-hourly combined frequency though, each route will run two-hourly offering a combined hourly frequency between Bedford and Sandy, with the 72 offering a two-hourly extension to/from Potton and likewise the 73 to Biggleswade on the alternate hours. Herbert’s Travel run other services that will retain a link between Potton and Biggleswade. Grant Palmer’s pattern means only two buses are needed rather than around Stagecoach’s present four, and their existing 74 also offers an alternative link between Bedford and Biggleswade.
