It was useful for Chiltern Railwas drivers to have the route knowledge so that trains could be diverted to and from Paddington when needed, but since the link at Old Oak Common has been severed they now terminate services at West Ruislip and have passengers use the Underground. A transport appraisal is needed to analyse the effect of closure on users, the environment and the economy as well as a consultation required to allow the public for a say. The decision will hold the Office of Rail and Road to decide whether the line will close or not. All of these will require cost, time and resources to a point on some occasions it will not be worth closing a line or station. Chiltern Railways are required to provide a Paddington to West Ruislip service as part of their franchise agreement with the DfT.

Chiltern Railways are required to provide a Paddington to West Ruislip service as part of their franchise agreement with the DfT. I thought they would have been released from that obligation when the direct line was severed at Old Oak Common. There's no need anyway for Chiltern services to operate into Paddington as passengers can travel between West Ruislip and Central London by Underground.

ianVisits has written and article about the ending of the Chiltern service from West Ealing, the reason for its withdrawal (and replacement bus) is because the West Ealing-Greenford shuttle is being prepared for battery-electric trial operation. He confirms that the last departure will be from West Ealing at 11.15 on Wednesday 7th December, arriving West Ruislip at 11.34. www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/last-chance-to-ride-chilterns-parliamentary-train-58797/For those interested in such things, there does remain one other Parliamentary Train in the London area. On Saturdays, the 05.30 Liverpool Street - Enfield Town is routed via Clapton Junction, Coppermill Junction and the South Tottenham Curve. It passes through, but does not stop at, Clapton and South Tottenham.

That route is also used during engineering work. Some late-night/early morning trains often take that route in either direction.

There is also a weekly coach (usually operated by Westbus) every Monday at 0105 from Waterloo to Southampton Central, arriving at 0435, just 14 minutes before the first train back to London. Is this technically a parliamentary (SWR having to maintain a service during certain hours) or just engineering works are always scheduled then

Could be a local coach company It could be a TfL bus operator, but as TfL isn't responsible for the service it could just as likely be a local private hire company, operating a mini-coach.
