What is interesting is the criticism of the police. They graded her high risk at the start and commenced the search of the river. It is tidal so currents change every 6 hours. That moves objects up and down. Dead bodies generally sink initially. Decomposing bodes surface when the trapped air contained makes the body float. That process can take a couple of weeks. Seems to be the police were spot on with their hypothesis from the get go. It was everyone else coming up with other theories and huge intrusion by the media and the public that made matters worse. Then you have the team of divers who the family hired telling the world she was definitely not in the river and the police should stop wasting their time. Except that's not actually the whole story now is it? The diving team also said that the police failed to inform them regarding the information about her being vulnerable and the specific issues she had that police thought was wise telling everyone exactly what they are - they went on to say had they been informed of this, the hired diving team's search area would of been a lot different to the one they searched.

Surely if they are hired by the family, it is for the family to tell them that, not the police.

The criticism of the police is towards their public discussion of what problems she exactly had - I don't think it was wise or necessary to discuss it publicly beyond saying she was vulnerable it is isn't anyone's business outside of the family and anyone working on the case itself. I'd also extend the criticism to the police not informing the hired diving team of this information either IMO.

They are working on the same case so I'd surely expect all parties involved to have a certain level of communication relevant to the search otherwise what is the point then?

The police were more than happy with their team of divers ... You generally don't divulge all the evidence to the public. They were not part of the police investigation.

Who said anything about divulging all the evidence - again, I ask people to stop presuming things on here and just ask instead. I don't see any issue if done properly of sharing evidence related to the diving aspect - the aim was to find her, not determine a guilty or not guilty outcome.

Then you have the team of divers who the family hired telling the world she was definitely not in the river and the police should stop wasting their time. I don't think the divers were hired by the family? The publicity seeking Peter Faulding offered his services for free to the police in such a way that they couldn't really refuse. He then had the temerity to complain to all and sundry that the police hadn't given him Nicola's medical history and various other bits of private information about her, he seemed to forget that he's a civilian not a police officer. With other people then threatening to disclose such information the police had little choice but to make it public. Then despite all Peter Fauldings assurances that she wasn't in the river etc it transpired that she was and that the police were right all along. Surely anyone with any basic knowledge knows that tidal currents move objects up and down the river and possibly out to sea and it's certainly not unusual for it to take a few weeks to recover a body from open water. Had this been left to the police without Mr Faulding's we know best attitude (he's also got a book out BTW!) and the general public sticking their twopenneth in at every opportunity and their constant want for knowledge this awful tragedy could have been dealt with in a far more satisfactory way.
