To see former trunk routes such as the 2 axed entirely leaving significant villages with no public transport option is distressing to those of us in the industry… The 2 (Tenterden - High Halden - Ashford) has been partially saved - the route will have three return journeys in the middle of the day Monday to Saturday from 14th August. Plus the school-time trips which as a contractual obligation were not under threat anyway as I understand it. So the net loss is only a couple of trips a day. Still a shadow of the once hourly service this route used to enjoy but at that time the adjacent (now 2A) road via Shadoxhurst had just one trip daily but is now the busier of the two. I understand a few other cuts have been "cut back" slightly too including a token service through Wye.

Quick update, it seems that the 100 (Conquest - Rye) is being extended as part of the East Sussex improvements scheme to replace the 102 to New Romney. Whether this means the 102 will now terminate at Greatstone or run the fast route via New Romney High Street, Brenzett and the A259 to Rye hasn't been clarified just yet.

Moz A classic example of bus service provision being a political lottery according to where you live. East Sussex were rather successful in their BSIP applications and have also been long-time supporters of public transport. Kent, just next door, has not been supportive nor have they been successful in BSIP which basically means the rural bus there is a critically endangered species. For a good many people who happen to use routes which cross the border what they get (if anything) depends upon which county takes responsibility for their local bus. The routes across Rye being a case in point as they fall within East Sussex as far as Camber but beyond there they operate in Kent. Kent-supported rural routes to the north and north-east of Rye have been whittled away to almost nothing as support has been withdrawn.

Without a useful direct connection between the two routes. The Dover - Lydd Camp journeys arrive there a few minutes after the Rye / Hastings bus has left and vice versa. To make a journey across New Romney will now require a walk through the town there from one stop to the next and in the hope that the inbound journey arrives on time. Hardly ideal. There must be reason to it but why not swap the Lydd Camp and Lydd-on-Sea extensions to improve connectivity?

Well it's all going about as well as anybody could have expected since the closure. A large proportion of the drivers at FK took redundancy which caused major cancellations on the first day after closure. Since then about 60% of the staff who transferred out have given in their notice. It's fairly comical looking at the daily cancellations tweets for the area.
