I sometimes think it's easier for people to deal with this inconsequential rubbish, than the real problems that are occurring in this country and around the world. Hear hear , this is why the governments and certain media outlets are forever concocting up nonsense culture wars i.e "war on woke" or "Gender neutral toilets" or "Jerk Rice" or "Cultural appropriation" for us all to be divided over and not really paying attention to important issues going on negativity sells . The phrase "Bread and Circuses" comes to mind, it originated in Roman times when the Emperor kept the population happy by promising food and entertainment. In a political context it means generating public approval, not by excellence in public service or public policy, but by diversion and distraction. Sound familiar? |
