I wonder if the new MMC’s for the 285 will contain blinds for the 490? Don’t see any reason why a double decker can’t be used on the 490 unless there’s low trees along Staines Road causing an issue Certainly no problem on Staines Road, the 490 has had DDs as tube strike extras. The only bit of the route that wasn't covered was the Pools on the Park terminus - the DDs terminated at Richmond Station and turned using Richmond Circus.

Yes and I did see some photos of this not long ago. The stand at Pools on the Park is a little tight and that could prevent DD's from doing the full route unless the route was cut back to Richmond Station and replaced by another route

Or swap it with a Manor Circus route. With the 493 and H22 being withdrawn from there plus the H37 running less frequent it shouldn't be too hard to fit the 490 in there now.

The only problem with this idea is you're adding another route from Richmond to Manor Circus when TfL wanted to cut the amount of routes on that section. Not that this would happen but think stand arrangements should be this. 493 used Pools on the Park stand 490 goes to Richmond Bus Station with it using the 337 stand so customers can get on there 337. Still stands at the bus station but first stop is now George Street. Talking about Manor Circus I wonder if the R70 will now use the H22 stand. There's big development planned for that site but that's probably been put on hold.

I think the R70 would be a good route to terminate at Pools in the Park (in place of the 490), as it would continue some links via Twickenham. Then the 490 could terminate at Manor Circus and convert to DDs.

My idea is that the the 490 would now not serve the town centre apart from journeys coming into Richmond. I do appreciate there are flaws in my idea.

We are going to have to disagree here because I really don't think the 337 losing that stop is a big deal in all honesty, the amount of people who actually get on there is very small because where are they coming from? If you're coming from Richmond station direction you're going to get off at the quadrant and walk to Eton Street and if you're coming from Richmond bridge direction you're going to get off at George Street and get the route from there. My idea means that the 493 will still serve Richmond Station a link/connection that is much more useful than the 337 one from the bus station.

2038, 2040 and 2042 are currently driving around Hanworth, presumably type training. 2038 is showing blinds for 278.

What I guess might have happened is that the registrations were submitted/allocated before the factory shutdowns all occurred with intentions to build them at Falkirk however following the Coronavirus situation the decision was taken to build them at Scarborough instead, but obviously no point in applying for new reg plates when there were already some available.

Double Deckers easily fit at Pools in the Park when I was at a Westbus I bought in Double Decker Tri-Axles and Scanias there on school swimming contracts, it’s not tight at all...so no excuse for 490 to terminate at Manor Circus if DD operation

I mind mind is getting fuzzy but did Travel London ever have a middle stair case Plaxton President? I seem to remember one on the 3 I think.
