If this New N518 go ahead I would do is Withdrawn N18 from Trafalgar Square and Great Portland Street and reroute it to Euston or King's Cross so it would follow the rest of the day 18 I always find it odd that N18 go to Trafalgar Square not Euston Did you not see the bus stop usage thread? Two of the busiest stops in London for night routes includes the N18 at Trafalgar Square and Regent Street. Do you want to deny those passengers by having their bus route frequency halved because you want to standardise the 18?

Its been nice to see they haven't.

I think this may be the start of a new night network. The number fits in with the pattern of the N550/551 and I wouldn’t be surprised if we eventually see the N5, N20 and N97 renumbered with in the 5 series to fit. Seems to fit with temp routes now being numbered in the 700 series instead of 500 as they used to be. I don't think it's that - the N550 & 551 were only numbered as such because of the relevance to the route they replaced which was the N50 and this seems to be a similar case with the N518 which seems to be renumbering the N18 journeys that run between Sudbury & Harrow Road and Trafalgar Square. Recently, a N271 was introduced which would contradict any renumbering scheme involving 500 series routes. This route seems a good idea, and the numbering makes sense when taking the other N5** series routes into account. On the N271 point, the logical number for this would have been N521 given that it parellels the extended 21 for most of its route, rather than adopting the number of a defunct daytime service. However, I expect the existence of the 521 in the City stopped this. If TfL want to reuse the 271 number elsewhere at some point, I wouldn't be surprised to see the N20 and this become the N520 and N521 respectively.

Unless it's just for internal use I thought the N271 was going to be tendered as the N263.

You know what I wish was like a day version as well. Maybe a Superloop route.

I agree with your proposal to serve South Harrow by following the routeing of the 398 along Northolt Road and Eastcote Lane, that would increase the catchment area of the route and avoid the cost of four new bus stops on the southern section of Alexandra Avenue. Running it direct via Alexandra Avenue instead of via Northolt Road & Eastcote Lane would speed up journeys by at least 10 minutes If that’s the case then I can understand why it might not be financially viable.

Its been nice to see they haven't. I think even they know that Euston is a grim terminus, even more so at night, far from most nightlife and activity in those hours, and would be highly reliant on people switching buses to then catch the 18 (which probably would push people who can to simply choose alternative modes of transport).
They aren't that daft thankfully.

The N207 already covers the SL8 - why does it need another night bus route? And why to Euston at night when people are mainly looking for the West End?

I meant the SL8 to Euston at day, not at night, to support 18 between Euston and Baker Street and make the journey faster. It would be good if SL8 used Westway (A40) and the Marleybone flyover, the same way SL1 used the flyovers on the North Circular Road to speed up the journey on the superloop buses.

This route , if it were initially run as part of an altered 18/N18 contract , could start around the same time as the 28 loss - might provide some alternative employment for the night drivers on the N28 should they want to stay within RATP.
Either way I hope this route becomes reality asap. And before the summer when the night life steps up a gear.

Loads of buses run from Euston to Baker Street. I really can’t see that corridor needing more.

Not to mention TFL did plan to the take the 205 away from it so I can't see them adding more to it at the present time.
