Back in the 90s when I worked at U the first 15B used to sign on at 0327. Then later on when I was at SD the last 106 used to finish at 0221 if I recall.
Are there still many day routes that start before 0400 and/or finish after 0200?

U3 commences at 03.20 from Uxbridge. 423 commences at 03.20 from Hounslow. 350 commences at 03.25 from Hayes. A10 commences at 03.30 from Uxbridge.

I thought 118 at Morden, last bus at 02:00 and first bus at 03:55 www.londonbusroutes.net/times/118N133.htm#1_THowever upon further inspection the 03:55 is omitted from the TfL website at they begin with the 04:16, although the last bus still finishes at 02:00

I should have realised about Heathrow - that’s a bit of a special case.

75 first service journey is 0400 from Lewisham, last is 0159 arrival at Lewisham, so depends if you mean the duty or the public timetable.
75 was briefly a 24 hour route from 2004-09, after N75 had run from 2002, and if I remember right, some early / late journeys stayed put even though the 'middle of the night' journeys didn't.
First 358 is 0400 from Crystal Palace, which is at the remote end of the route, so bus leaves Orpington Garage 0325. I thought it had some very late journeys as well, but either I've remembered wrong, or they don't exist any more, as last arrival at each end is 0126 / 0127 (so bus is home just before 0200.)

121 finishes late and start early too 121 doesn't start particularly early (0500) but it does finish very late; last buses arrive at Enfield Island Village 0214-0218 depending on the day of the week, which may well make it the last non-24-hour route in service.
154 also finishes quite late but doesn't beat the 121, with last buses finishing service at 0158.
358 used to have late buses finishing at a similar time to the 121 but those journeys were withdrawn at the last contract renewal (or the one before that, can't remember).

The 154 uses to have a later finish but sadly the latest contract ended those.

If memory serves me well, the 154 was actually the route with the latest finishing times around 02:30, albeit shorts to Sutton Green from Croydon. Unfortunately when the route went to 24 hour weekend operation for Night Tube in 2015*, those shorts were removed on all days of the week. It was annoying as generally TfL (at the time at least) stuck one extra late night journey onto a route before a nightly 30 minute service began. It was a similar situation with the 123 and the scheduled shorts to Tottenham Town Hall departing Ilford. *Night Tube was supposed to start in September 2015 for the Rugby World Cup, but was delayed. Instead TfL went ahead with some associated changes like the 154N.

The E8 is a route that starts early and finishes late. I'm not particularly sure why.
You have the 0135 departure from Ealing Broadway, getting into Hounslow at 0203. And it starts up again less than 2 hours later with the 0400 departure from Hounslow.

Most of the replies to this have mentioned the times of the first and last journeys but you’ve specifically mentioned sign on and sign off times. To that end, the first SL3 duty signs on at 0359 and the last one signs off at 0208

Are there still many day routes that start before 0400 and/or finish after 0200? There are still a lot of these. The 106 still would have this, some of this stems from when it had a short lived N106. When the route went to Arriva, IIRC the first sign on was 03:15 am and last sign off was around 02:20 am. There are still a lot of routes with very early starts or late finishes. Routes like 34, 175 still has a sign on before 4am

Both 114 and 183 end very late with the last 183 coming into Pinner around 1:30AM and the last 114 reaching Ruislip around at almost 2AM
Then the 114 starts up again around 4:50 toward Mill Hill and the 183 starting at 5:16
Interesting, both of these routes had a weekend 24hr service but was since suspended because of COVID. Definetly should be reinstated and possibly made into a daily 24 hr roure
