Best moment: My dad coming home to excitedly tell me the buses were talking. This was 2001 and shortly after the 51-reg LDP arrived at AL. They had a voice announcement about the closing doors, it didn’t last long. Worst moment: Witnessing a driver parked up at Walthamstow Central pee inside Stagecoaches TA1. Parked up for a good 10 minutes before wandering to the rear doors and just peeing on the floor. Ironically there was toilet a few feet away. What? No. I cant accept this as true. Surely not. My mind cannot even picture it, it is so implausible. And yet it is 100% true. Stagecoach invited me to identify the driver and discuss it further after I complained to TfL but I wasn’t able to attend as I had work and they wouldn’t change the meeting time. It was more of a formality as I was able to clearly describe the driver, time, route, bus model and even the stand at Walthamstow Central in my complaint. Coincidentally it was withdrawn not long after the incident.

Best: Taking a bus from my school to Woolwich on the 10th of May and 17th of June 2024, after an exam. This was the same bus as this girl I like, and so we talked a bit until she got off. (She knows by the way) - inspired by LT 20181's "best" moment. The first time it was E261 and the second time it was E260. I got on E260 today, what's more on the 286 - it made me so happy!
Worst: having to evacuate WS113 on the way to primary some time in late 2019 because a baby had vomited. To this day one of my least favourite buses.

Enthusiasm for modern single deck rides seems to have totally died off for me. Just plain boring and underpowered nowadays. There is the odd Enviro 200 that can kickdown or be thrashed, but that is rare for me sadly and nothing to Euro 2/3 darts. I can relate to this. Single decks are starting to become more interesting but there was a point when 90% of single decks were boring E200s, E200 MMCs and Streetlites…

I think fast older Enviro200s and the newer ones which can consistently rev interestingly (e.g S1, P4, MB ones) are extremely fun though

The excitement when we heard of rumours of Citaro Ks being ordered, then due to a TfL requirement not being met we ended up with more crappy E200 MMCs. Ah we bus enthusiasts are a whiny bunch for sure.

They sound a bit boring compared to their predecessors (my favourites are the YX13s that you find on the 126 a lot). Also a great fan of Citaros, despite not liking the 108 much.

I’m the complete opposite - I prefer the ones your not keen on and find any before 14 reg to be dull, boring and in many cases, horrid to use full stop

Best moments
I could write a book on both points 😂 From those Dennis Arrows that was on the 179, 259, 76 and 369 which made its appearances on the 123 and 296 at times. Man did they used to fly and then there was the single decker equivalent of those in the Lance that was on near enough every route in BK notably on the 145, 169, 369, 238, 150 and 62 with the London buses moquette on the seats. Then the famous date in 1999 when I saw those "futuristic" tridents on the 25 floating around Ilford and Stratford and then a few months later blue triangle introduced their own on the 474
Now
For the bad parts. You had the 296 when it used to go to Harold Wood and how unreliable it used to be considering the hotspots it would go through. Them rock hard seats also on the 296 and at the back of the 341 (even though I loved those palatine 1 volvos and how the interior looked more like a palatine 2 with the dot matrix red stopping sign at the middle upstairs). I think a lot of the south east London buses had them at the back of the bus to prevent vandalism. Cutting the 179 back to Ilford in 2010 (although order has been restored by virtue of the SL2)

I know they're made by the same operator but still

Firstly, Darts replaced a multitude of other types in the late 90s in particular, but at least there was a variety of body types even if a majority were Pointers. Then for a few years they were replaced by E200s, almost all the same bodywork! (The only exceptions I can think of are the SOEs). I almost rode an SE on route 470 yesterday but they were not in my good books after they caused me to miss out on an OM.

The best moment this year has been timing of a piece of news, as well as the news itself.
I refer to the news of Metroline winning in Manchester. I found this out on Easter Monday morning, just as I was about to ride some Metroline buses in and around Harrow!

But I know what vjaska means about the terrible ride quality of buses up to 59 reg, especially Stagecoach. Let's just say that the single-decker 178 was not fun in the summer.
