There probably isn't one 'the best', but the Nottingham operators here certainly deserve credits. NCT have a very modern fleet of Scanias and Tridents, a network of 15 trunk and supplementary routes totalling about 100. All trunk routes run with at least 6 bph and supplementary routes (2-3 per trunk route) every 20 or 30 minutes. AFAIK NCT have a good timekeeping record. Trent Barton already have an all low-floor fleet. In Nottingham they operate 5 high-frequency Rainbow routes and several other connections to satellite towns/villages at 15/20-min frequencies. Most drivers are very friendly though their timetables are too tight resulting in poorish timekeeping. I'd back that, especially Trent Barton, and I'm a Londoner! lol best bus network, most regular and systematic outside of London

The Brighter bus Company, 36, Spot on and The Witch Way Now geuss the operators and why I like them. Im not to sure about the Brighter Bus Company but, the 36 i think is Harrogate & District 36 Ripon-Leeds, Spot On is Lancashire United local routes in the Blackburn area, & The Witch Way is the Burnley & Pendle X43 Nelson-Manchester Express.

It depends how you define 'best' - my vote goes to Halifax Joint Committee. They have over the years used a selection of old 'cockneybuses' at the moment they run a several Metrobuses - although the old girls aint at there best and have a bit of trouble climbing the hills in Yorkshire they still have a lot more charactor than some of the current buses being built.

Jim I echo your point on the current buses built. Apart from the e400 and Omnicity DD, the rest dont look or sound good IMO.

Arriva, Go-Ahead, transdev, first and ELBG are the best companies for me. Yes I like first.

I hate Transdev because they got rid of the London United and Sovereign names and can't run a lot of their services properly. I didn't see Metrobus or Quality Line in their ;D.

I'm very surprised that no-one has mentioned Lothian. A classic livery, (before the awful Harlequin effort was adopted,) a stable, comprehensive network and a sensible fare policy.

Personally I'd elect Metrobus - both London and Crawley operations. Nice and polite staff, clean buses, website is updated regularly, including the fleetlist. Most of the bus services are pretty reliable.

Gonna update my point on Thamesdown Transport as the best company as my last post was 2007 or so it says. Heres a few reasons why. -Modern fleet,22 New Scania's bought in the last 3 years replacing step floor Dart's and step floor double deckers, 36 Brand new Super Pointer Darts bought 1998-2004, and 15 SLF's bought 1996-1999. -All major routes have modern low floor buses -Most rural routes have low floor buses -Buses are always very clean -Very reliable, ran services in the snow as far and for as long as possible even when Stagecoach in Swindon were not running any -Regular frequencies, route 17 every 10 mins 7 days a week,13/14/1/1A are all every 10 mins Mon-Sat, with most other major routes being every 15mins. -CCTV on all low floor buses and most other buses -Easy to access bus times from website,by phone and also live bus time screens at main stops -Website updated all the time including fleetlists and upcoming purchases -Souvenirs available direct from them
