The platforms at Highbury will not allow ELL trains to run any further on.

Have some more info on class 378. It is intended that upto 5 will enter service from July 20th.
Each unit has to acheive 3200km fault free before being allowed in public service and only five units have acheived this so far due to build problems arising from unfit components

The platforms at Highbury will not allow ELL trains to run any further on. yes and no There are different phases of construction, there were originally 4 tracks through Highbury, currently only the southern pair are in use, whilst he others are rebuilt. The line will close completely from Christmas to April 2010. Services to Stratford will then use northern pair of lines. The existing lines will become the East London (but will not open until 2011, as services will all terminate at Dalston Jct initially when ELL reopens June 2010) One line through existing overground platforms will have buffers, the other will be retained as a reversible line (for stock transfer) There is a bridge at Camden Road that needs to be rebuilt (now funded, but work wont happen until 2013) to allow the northern pair of tracks through Camden Rd to be reopened (both will be Eastbound), once this is done the existing Eastbound track which serves the middle island platform will become a bay platform allowing East London trains to be extended from Highbury to Camden Road in 2013 It is possible things will change, amongst things being considered are : electrification of remainder of Gospel Oak-Barking line, with diesel sets possibly going to Chiltern, and more 378's; diversion of Watford services from Euston to Camden Rd, maybe with through ELL running (If Euston becomes Terminus of HighSpeed2 which will see existing platforms 8-20(?) including parcels bit all replaced by new 400m TGV style platforms) Only the changes until early 2012 are definite, others could be revised. Hope this makes it clear.

There is an article in Modern Railways mag (Dec) on Overground and it says the East London Line re-opens on Sunday 23rd May
I assume the replacement buses therefore finish previous day.
It will be interesting to see if bus services get altered to feed the stations on the new Shoreditch-Dalston section. There are plenty of precedents for rearranging buses as station feeders, eg. the Walthamstow scheme in 1968 (when Victoria line opened); Brixton area 1971 (Victoria line extension); Hatton Cross 1975, Heathrow 1977 (both Piccadilly line extensions); Canning Town and North Greenwich 1999 (when Jubilee was extended)

What I would like to know is whether this new 'Overground' system will replace the current National Rail services already covered by Southern, which to me will be a complete dupilcate between West Croydon and New Cross Gate if they left it out. As a result, will they refurbish all the stations along this section, and re-brand them initially as part of the new services eg. signage and equipment?

As I understand it, the principle user of the station will become the Overground and will therefore be staffed as such. Some Southern trains will continue to use the stations, although timetable might be thinned out. As for signage, I expect both Operators names will appear outside, with main owners name first. The only service change that I have heard is the cutting of South London line trains when the Clapham Junction extension opens (late 2011 ?). At Clapham Jct a new platform 2a may be built by extending Western end of 2 to the middle road between 2 and 3 thus making platform 2 a bay platform, so there are two staggered terrminating platforms.

Norwood Junction has already become Overground. Although there has been no change of signage as yet, or any sign of refurbishment- which is desperately, desperately needed- the staff all wear London Overground luminous vests, and the announcements are 'Southern on behalf of London Overground'.
On another note there have been two new class 378's sitting in the still under construction New Cross Gate depot for the last couple of weeks now. (The depot does look very close to completion).

The Overground will be suspended between Gospel Oak and Stratford in Feb for a few weeks to allow a rebuild. A 20min interval bus service will run instead. Wouldn't like to be on the bus if they try and cram everyone from a crowded 3car peak-hour train on it www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/13867.aspx

In the last week or so, both Norwood Junction and New Cross Gate have received just one platform sign each in the Overground style. Also Underground-style profligacy has started to seep into the operation- on Monday lunchtime there were THREE staff manning the three-barrier gateline at Norwood Junction!

Does anyone here know the Class378 diagram for the West London Line (Clapham Jct to Willesden Jct). Is it fully operated by the new Overground stock, or just partially with some 313s still operating? Just wondering, as I will be using the line tomorrow. Many thanks
