Right, i know this isn't any passenger operated services, but, does any one know how an EWS freight service would reach France?? Saw one yesterday coming home from Luxembourg and was quite shocked to see it. In fact, it was actually hauling trucks rather than those containers

A couple of years a ago i got talking to a freight driver at warrington and his loco was branded for both sncf and ews on a silver livery , dont quote me but it could have been a class 60.

Well, this was one of the Class 66's in the Brown and Yellow of EWS. I know the Channel Tunnel is an obvious option, but do they use the old lines that the Eurostar used to use and can they even get up to a decent speed in there??

Nothing in the Channel Tunnel gets up to 'decent speed' really. IRRC it's about 80-100mph in the tunnel. I doubt that EWS would use the CTRL.

Most of the time when i see EWS trains running they're using the slow up/down lines through to Stratford lol. Must admit i have seen alot of increased activity from them at Stratford. Especially in the gravel/dirt truck trains. Just wondering if they're shipping any of the land dug on the site of the Olympics??

See, now that's what threw me because it was any of the Class 90's. It was one of their diesel loco's, certain it was a class 66 pulling the load

About a year or so ago, EWS applied for a licence to operate freight services France (and other European countries), which was granted.
They call this operation Euro Cargo Rail and to furnish the new operation overseas around 50 class 66s were modified at EWS main depot at Toton and sent through the Tunnel to operate freight trains on the continent. How long the 66s will stay over there is unclear as Euro Cargo Rail have bought some class 66s of thier own thus may send some of the UK ones back.
Thus EWS liveried (but ECR branded) class 66s can be seen in various points on the continent.

Cheers mate, tanks for the info. To back this up, was going to Lille for another show, and i passed the same line where i saw this EWS train and noticed at Dunkerque a yard showing Euro Cargo Rail. All finally makes sense

I always thought that the 66's hauled the freight to the freight terminal and left it for class 92's from France to come and pick it up
