Dear dear dear, I'd almost certainly point the finger of blame at maintenance. Up here the Scania Omnidekkas Omnicities and Omnitowns are quiet as mice... I think we're getting back to the age old argument, London Buses are underpowered for the work they have to do as it always seems to be when they are being worked hard (e.g uphill) that they make more noise, it would be interesting to see if a higher powered bus developed these faults as quickly.

London Central's T311 AGP sounds very strange - much like Arriva's PDL 4. Must get a video at some point.

Really there's just no excuse for Scanias to be making this kind of noises. Is it a regular occurence or is it just a very odd few that do roar? Well, in the Blue Triangle fleet of 5 Omnidekka's, it's only SO3 that's got a problem. The rest are pretty good, which bearing in mind they're nearly 3 years old, is bloody good for a London bus nowadays lol Also, i've mentioned earlier that 17544 was making a strange noise. Seemed to be like a bubbly noise from the engine. Similar to that of DMC41523. Will have to try and get a video of it at some point

No problem....god, it's sad when I know the registrations of half our buses As for the sounds it was making, probably no different to the entire fleet of DM's although I'm surprised you could hear the engine noise over the sound of the body rattling

I doubt Nottingham's Omnidekkas are higher rated, they are actually the longer 12m version. When they are on the road they just sound so effortless... Mind you some parts of the city are pretty hilly too. I could be that they've got the 260hp engine or something...

Do scania do 260bhp engines I thought it was 230 and 270bhp. I have always wanted to knwo the power output of a CN94UD? as I know the power outputs for the euro4 scanias because it is blatent obvious in the name e.g N230/270UD(230/270bhp), K230UB (230bhp) and so on.

Sorry, my mistake, just assumed. The N94UD had the choice of 230, 270 and 310 hp.

Thanks NCT, I can now rest my brain on that subject. So that means scania have had no power increase on their euro4 over euro 3 engines.
Volvo Euro3: 215/250bhp - Euro4: 260bhp(was originally 300bhp) Trident Euro3: 225(245*/260*) - Euro4 250bhp Scania Euro3: 230 - Euro4 230bhp Dart Euro3: 120/140 - Euro4 160bhp MAN (single deck) Euro3: 220 - Euro4 240bhp Enviro 300 Euro3: 220 - Euro4 250bhp VDL SB200 Euro3: 180 - Euro4 210bhp

Sort of related - I think it can come of the clapped out list - DMC41523 appears to have been fixed and sounds more like a bus than a typewriter when it's moving....

As for more Romford buses, all the NS 171** batch of Tridents seem to have had their transmissions sorted, though i know a couple of the 174** lot, including 17444 have got this problem creeping up on them

Thornton Heath's DLA129 was a bit of a state this morning... It needs a lick of paint. Still, it's in better nick than Enfield's DLA197, which I saw heading up the A1055 on a tow-truck... ;D
