To further notify the punters, advertisements could be put in the saloon for ibus to broadcast the following....
"PASSENGERS ARE REMINDED THAT THIS BUS WILL BE REROUTED FROM SATURDAY JANUARY 1ST, PLEASE REFER TO THE ADVERTISMENT ON BOARD THIS BUS"
Also with the Xmas and New Year irregularities coming up, ibus should be used to notify punters on such events like;
* No Night Buses on Xmas Eve.....
"PASSENGERS ARE REMINDED THAT THERE WILL BE NO LONDON NIGHT BUS SERVICES IN OPERATION TONIGHT"
* No buses on Xmas Day.....
"PASSENGERS ARE REMINDED THAT THERE WILL BE NO LONDON BUS SERVICES IN OPERATION TOMORROW"
* Free Travel on bus and tube from 11.45 New Years Eve
"PASSENGERS ARE REMINDED THAT FREE TRAVEL WILL BE AVAILABLE ON LONDON'S BUSES FROM 11:45 TONIGHT UNTIL 05:00 NEW YEAR'S DAY"

Now they are good ideas! Would at least give people more of a chance to change their plans before they've got off the bus

Yes they are good suggestions. Its shows how much the potential ibus does have. Hopefully, once all buses have ibus then they could start implementing some of the suggestions here.
Maybe it could display traffic incidents. I think the countdown does similart displays. Theres not many of them around though

they have got to sort out the repeating of the route and destination every time the bus stops. On some buses it's amazing how annoying 472... to Thamesmead can get after the 10th time in 10 minutes.

Though I do probably speak for most drivers when I ask if it's really necessary for it to say it when you open the REAR doors only??

I've notice some buses do that, yet it's silent when ONLY the front doors are opened. Makes me wonder if they mistakenly connected the wrong doors to activate the route/destination announcments.

All of ours have it rigged to both sets of doors. It's not like the passengers already on the bus are going to forget what it is so why don't they just do it for the front doors?

I think with some types of bus they have solved this problem but it depends how the manufacturer wires up the doors. On some it works with the front doors only and the rear ones can open without triggering it.

If a particular route is scheduled for a permenant rerouting, curtailment or extension, will pre-recorded messages be programmed into ibus for drivers to alert punters in advance? ibus will get programmed with it if the diversion/curtailment etc is for at least 12 weeks or more. Or do you mean something like 'this route will change from monday'... in the week before? sorry if I have misunderstood

Unfortunately tonight when a driver took over the 193 outside romford station, he never activated the ibus system, when I asked him as I got off the bus he reckoned he was going to do it at the terminus. Its amazing how drivers can be allowed to get away with this. Especially as this system is costing TfL nd taxpayers a considerable amount of money.
P.S. I do realise it is only the minority of drivers who do this so no offense intended to anyone.

On a piddly little route like the 193, hardly worth having it anyway!
