I was travelling home on the 173 tonight, and I knoticed a major change to the destination. This is the first time I have encountered a serious modification.
The terminus used to read, "173 . . to . . Goodmayes, King George Hospital". The name was so long that it used to drift across the display at the front.
However, tonight I got on the bus and the display and announcement read: "173 . . to . . King George Hospital". Im sure Emma Hignett has re-recorded that, as it seemed different to the way she used to announce it before after the Goodmayes.
This also allows for the display to stay on the screen and not scroll across as it is not so long.
TfL must monitor passenger responses to this, and that destination being repeated time and again must have been the reason for that modification.
The 173 has a few problems with i-bus. Bus X532GGO announces stops too early, I think the tracker is not allogned properly. Sometimes, the bus is approaching Wood Lane/ Morrisons, and i-bus is announcing "James Avenue", which is the next stop! If the stops are close together, it makes it worse.
Bus X529GGO has no announcements, they totally dont work as I travelled on it a number of times and only the display works.
Theres another bus that has only the voice, as the screen no longer works. Will there be people that fix i-bus once all buses have been installed? - Gareth.

In terms of change that is quite significant - though I note with interest your comments about the scrolling display there Gareth. The 128 also has a scrolling display for the stop at what was Oldchurch Hospital. I believe it's something like "Oldchurch Rise/Queens Hospital" which has to scroll but as yet has no announcement - presumably "Oldchurch Rise for Queens Hospital" once they get around to recording it.
With regards to X532GGO I would suggest (if you haven't done so already of course) contacting TfL or Arriva or both to report the problem. They will only find out about these problems through passenger feedback.

Update for the 128 - they have now recorded a message for the Oldchurch Rise stop to go with the message. The stop on i-bus reads: "Oldchurch Rise For Queen's Hospital" - backed up by the voice. It used to just read and say "Oldchurch Rise" with no scroll - though it has a scroll due to length now.
Has anyone got any e-mail details for TfL and Arriva? I'm perfectly happy to e-mail them as it is annoying to have the thing going and its inaccurate. Last week, it was announcing "Church Elm Lane" when it was arriving at Dagenham Heathway Station!
I think shortening the 173 terminus to "King George Hospital" was an excellent idea, and like other people, was surprised when it had "Goodmayes, King George Hospital" to start with as the blind was changed to just "King George Hospital" in 2006.
I would also like the other 173 terminus to be reverted from "Beckton, Asda", to "Beckton Station" to match up with the front of the bus. (Presuming of course that when the bus station is completed the stops in there are known as Beckton Station rather than Beckton Asda! - Gareth.

Dont worry, you can switch i-bus off! Certain drivers at DX like to have the system on and certain ones will immediately turn it off as soon as they take over the vehicle outside the garage! - Gareth.

My opinion of being able to turn it off is quite simple - they shouldn't be able to do it. Although admittedly different we can't turn band 3 off so why have the feature on iBus to turn it off??
This system was created to make passengers journey simpler - how can that be so if drivers are turning it off....

You are only supposed to turn it off it is NOT working correctly and you get permission from Band 3. Now where did I put my mobile phone jammer ;D

I have no experience of iBUS as yet but am guessing that it is too loud and annoys driver at DX hence some of them turning it off. So maybe a volume control is needed to make it bearable. Drivers attention should'nt be distracted by passengers or a recorded message.

Am actually looking forward to seeing how it pronounces Dagenham on the 174 and Harold Hill lol. Also to see how the little scumbags of Romford treat it and whether they'll be scared of it ;D

its bad enough on the 18000's that stupid "engine system is ok" voice blaring out in my ear every time i turn the ignotion on "Fire system pressure ok" actually I'm sure the ibus aint as bad as its directed at the passengers rather then through a speaker next to the drivers ear
