Looking on the DVLA site, it states that the 9's vehicles were made in late 2013. This would make them ineligible for a new contractual term by normal standards. But, as you said, TfL can just change the rules for their buses. TfL need to get a minimum of 14 years out of each LT as that is how long they are depreciated over so TfL will not record a loss on their sale.l, which is another reason why I do not think the 2030 aim will be hit ... 14 years on the last LTs takes you to 2031 it's 2034 now

The current funding package expires in December.

They are owned by TfL who make the rules. There is supposed to be a refurbishment programme. Details yet to be confirmed. Depending on the scope it may mean they are acceptable for new contracts. Looking on the DVLA site, it states that the 9's vehicles were made in late 2013. This would make them ineligible for a new contractual term by normal standards. But, as you said, TfL can just change the rules for their buses. An easy way to check LT ages (without having to look up individual vehicles on the DVLA site) is Bus Lists on the Web. The list of LTs is here.

I remember years ago Optare discontinuing the Olympus and replacing it with a new double decker range. Did they ever make the replacement or did the replacement ever come out?

The Rapta was the next bus along and barring the model shown at the Expo, none were ever built which is a shame as it's quite a nice looking bus and seems ADL took some inspiration from it as well. At the same time, they had a Solo replacement called the Solo+ but personally, thought it looked like a horrible version of the original Solo and thankfully, that one didn't go any further. Saw elsewhere that apparently an structural organisation that went on at the time led to the scrapping of these two buses and they went on instead to develop the Metrodecker instead whilst the Solo SR continued as the Solo's replacement.

I see. Yeah it is a shame that they weren’t made.

I quite like the Solo+ which had a similar styling to the Rapta ... so strange one liked and not the other. Looking at pictures think both those designs were ahead of their time and does not look so dated as the Solo SR.

The Solo+ looks just like the original Solo minus the subtle curves of the original and it doesn't look great as a result personally. I'd rather the old Solo had continued but it wouldn't of fitted the family look Optare went for with the Solo SR. They got the Rapta right though IMO, really nice bus that sadly went nowhere

It reminded me so much of the Spectra when it came out, ahead of its time. Now even looking back at the Solo+ it was better than the Solo SR. I was never a fan of the sperm whale type roof Optare went for with the SR range.

I found this image and it piqued my interest a bit. I had no idea Hounslow had an open top route, and there's no record of it on Ian Armstrong's website.
Does anyone have any info on this route? (e.g the route itself!)The bus itself had an interesting life being saved twice - first from arson and then from flooding. Hope it’s still going somewhere - it was with The London Bus Company at one point

Used to be rather busy with just the downstairs avaliable. Why was the top deck closed off? Not really practical to have a open top bus on a regular service especially in east London! Different if it was running a special service or had a second crew member.
