Whenever I talk to friends who live outside London about the state of buses there I realise how lucky we are. Since deregulation, bus services across most of England have been in terminal decline, with routes continually seeing their frequencies cut, which in turn supresses demand and extortionate fares meaning many don't bother with the bus at all. This is exactly why Andy Burnham has bought Greater Manchester's buses back in house and I believe Steve Rotherham and Tracy Brabin are doing/looking at doing similar things. Whilst TFL's current financial state isn't pretty and we're starting to see cuts to the network, compared to the decades of cuts other parts of the country face, we haven't fared nearly as badly. Couldn't agree more! Things are really good now in terms of the network we have and even with the cuts the network is much better than elsewhere. The proposed cuts are horrible but would rather lose routes that have duplication or where its easy to change buses to continue journeys instead of routes cut elsewhere without alternative services.

Didn't know where to post this:
Why are most buses (new) in counties still Diesel from my observation whilst in Essex saw two new 22 plate buses.
If I'm wrong correct me but in counties there seems to be little or none Hybrid & full Electric buses.

The whole Blackpool fleet is going electric in the next year or so.

Most need something like Zebra funding to pay for them.

Electric buses are slowly being introduced outside London in some areas - like SILENCED mentioned, they don't have the funding model to simply order lots of electrics so generally stick to diesels being cheaper and easier to procure. Hybrids were initially ordered by provincial operators but most have since converted their examples to diesels presumably as the savings made from hybrids were very marginal plus I suspect batteries would expire far quicker giving provincial buses are used over longer distances and at higher speeds depending on the route they're allocated to

Broadly, yes. My understanding is that hybrid buses need new batteries at around mid-life, and the cost of these is the sticking point.

Quick question buses serving Canary Wharf. Are buses on the double run meant to serve Canary Wharf DLR (North Entrance) in both directions? When there this week it seemed only buses towards Crossharbour / Stratford did but only YouTube route visuals buses in both directions seem to serve the stop? LVF only shows buses servings the stop in one direction.

Guessing it changed in that case as the stop only had timetables for buses in one direction.

On Hybrid buses is the engine smaller than on conventional Diesel buses?
Before anyone asks yes I've googled it but haven't got a clear answer.

On the E40Hs for example they use the 4.5L naturally aspirated Cummin engine for hybrid battery charging whereas the E40Ds used on routes like the 57 and 118 use the 6.7L turbo assisted Cummin engine. The Smart hybrids used on the 270 however have the same size units as the E40Ds as despite the bus having more electrical assistance in operation the engine still turns the wheels. The Volvos have similar differences in their diesel-hybrid comparisons.

I thought for some reason buses ran via Westferry Circus and West India Avenue like when heading towards Crossharbour.

First route to get white blinds? Not sure but was it the heritage RMs on the 9 and 15 back in 2005?
