Hmm any pictures of that? So why not blind the new double decks with P4 then if they could potentially be used as spare? Or it can't run double decks because of specific contract? Rookie questions lol. I believe it's due to residential objections, particularly in the Dulwich Village area. That sounds extremely plausible. The Dulwich Estate has a grip on the area probably second only to the Duke of Westminster in London terms, with the exception as always of the City of London of course.

Did the Bendy Buses belong to the Operators or TfL?

Did the Bendy Buses belong to the Operators or TfL? They were owned by the operators so they got stuck with them when they were withdrawn.

They took a big financial hit by the decision to withdraw them. Think most, if not all Go-aheads were owned ... Not sure about First n Stagecoach

I don’t know for sure but the fact those 57-reg bendies were deployed to other GAL fleets, Brighton&Hove and Konectbus etc, that would suggest to me they owned them. That’s an assumption though. Some of the 54-regs from the 12 went to Konectbus as well, but didn’t last very long.

Some of the 54-regs from the 12 went to Konectbus as well, but didn’t last very long. I distinctly remember some of the 02-reg batch (off 507/521) being offered for sale by one of the leasing companies. Nevertheless a few of them went to Brighton & Hove (later replaced by 57-reg ones). So the fact that some of them remained within the Go-Ahead group doesn't necessarily prove anything.
Looking at the official Brighton & Hove fleetlists, the second batch of 57-platers are listed as acquired from "Optare Group", with some of the older vehicles (02 and 54-reg) going to "Optare Group" in exchange. Perhaps Optare had something to do with the leasing arrangement?
