8826 refurbished. 8827 disappeared for three weeks just before the lockdown and returned to service, surely this is yet to be done though as I doubt RGI were open during the lockdown!

Is this the first refurbished OM? No, AFAIK 20230 was the first (completed last summer) and 20236 has also been done, not sure how many others are left but the batch appears to be nowhere near complete, especially with two of them being long term VOR. OM20232 looks to have been sorted as I saw a photo of it at Epsom Garage with its engine bay seemingly intact so it should hopefully be back soon, I would imagine that would be undergoing refurb before returning to service. In this photo I took of it in Banstead today however, there is virtually no difference to how it looked before. The only way to tell is whether or not the bus has standard RATP moquette . flic.kr/p/2j7TgMtProgress on the S1's OM's however has been noticeably slow. Not sure where these are being refurbished

Not sure where these are being refurbished I don't get the deal with what's happened to 20232 - when I used to be an S1 regular it was probably the best of the batch. Seems to be the rule with this batch that at least one must be long term VOR for an extended period at any given time - 20227 disappeared for around 7 months between 2018 and 2019 but that record has been obliterated by 20232. Would've thought that after 20229's minor fire last week it would finally return, but nope Ever since the RATP full takeover of Epsom the fleet presentation has taken a massive hit with the Versas (now all gone of course) and the Metrocities suffering the most. OM20237 for example went around for a while in 2018 looking like the front had been sanded down for a paint job, and when it finally did get one (front only) it was all over red, unlike the refurbished examples which have come since. The ibus screen in OM2033 always looked like it was going to fall off and was held up by duct tape which wasn't all too promising. Luckily they haven't mucked them up mechanically - always loved fast driver on Sutton Lane with those Mercedes Engines. Delightful!

According to this photo another one is in pieces at Epsom currently and this could be OM20228, out of action since January. Not sure why it's so hard to get spare parts (and engines for that matter) for the Metrocity, its still in production

Not sure why it's so hard to get spare parts (and engines for that matter) for the Metrocity, its still in production I’m not sure that this is a RATP problem to be honest. The Optare product is so unreliable once they get past 2-3 years in service. The OCEs For example are barely used at AV. The OV’s at Fulwell and Park Royal were often off the road for extended periods too. Stagecoach moved theirs on as quickly as they could as well.

Quality Line maintained their Optare's to a high standard though whilst under Epsom Coaches's control, most of the time their Solo's were immaculate in particular. I have to agree with 725DYE and say that the maintenance standards at Epsom have slipped since it went into full RATP control. This was particularly noticeable when I travelled on OS20255 for the last time a month before it departed in 2018, that bus was in a good condition for most of its life but started sounding a little ropey towards the end of its London life. Although, I don't disagree that its not a specific issue to RATP. Arriva have had issues with their EMC's, Metroline have had their MetroDecker EV's entering service late. They're not as reliable as an ADL product too which is rather ironic as since most diesel products are powered by Mercedes engines, you would usually expect them to be very reliable! In fairness to Arriva, their EMC's were the first full batch of electric vehicles delivered to London so you would expect them to be less reliable than an SEe for example.

This certainly isn’t the case for the Solo which is the only single decker to match the large volume of Darts & Enviro 200’s and it certainly wouldn’t be achieved by having unreliability issues - Solos are incredibly popular on the secondhand market. Before the takeover, Quality Lines Optare products were really well looked after along with the rest of the fleet but you always run the risk with any big operator of neglecting a part of the business (Arriva with the Southern Counties operations being a big example) and I do feel Epsom has seriously been neglected since the takeover in comparison to the re-acquisition of Sovereign where some good work has been put in by RATP.

10143 refurbished.
Still with old logos though as it was refurbished few months ago, but I hadn't seen 10143 post-refurb until today.

This is what I'm saying, between that and the electric mirrors at least the former's had periodic trials where it's better known what the technology is like long-term. If money had to be utilised between the two two schemes it should have ideally been for the LEDs. The only benefit of mirrorless tech is customers won't be clapped upside the head if the bus pulls in too sharply to the stop... once happened to me and an Enfield DLA I would have thought it's more to go wrong. Even BMW and Aston Martin aren't putting such tech on production cars, even if concept cars at car shows feature such nonsense if the electrics for the cameras fail, it's more dangerous. If an LED blind fails, it's not the end of the world. I guess LED blinds can be quietly dropped amid the COVID-19 chaos. With money disappearing with all these free buses everywhere, it makes you wonder how TfL will manage. Enfield should be painting up a few more DWs for the 191, I can't remember when that is happening Poor DLA, what did it ever deserve for it to be assaulted like that, it must have had to have major intensive surgery after that.

The refurb requirements for buses includes the cleaning of blind glasses and fitting of new blinds. Therefore, surprised that it wasn’t done at that point... Is that a TfL requirement that all buses get new blinds upon refurbishment, or just within RATP? I can think of quite a few routes’ allocations that haven’t been getting new blinds upon refurbishment. 237, 111 (only now getting changed with extra routes moving in), 109, 145 (the existing 11-reg E400 part) and 476 immediately spring to mind, but come to think of it these in all these cases the buses are starting a new contract on exactly the same route, essentially rolling over. So I wonder if blinds are allowed to not be changed in this case. Not a TfL requirement for new blinds upon refurbishment, unless it had older type blinds fitted which are no longer compliant.
